The Media Campaign Team of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North Federal Constituency has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of engaging in “gutter politics” ahead of Saturday’s bye-election.
It alleged that the ruling party in Oyo State fabricated a video using artificial intelligence to falsely portray the APC and its candidate, Adewale Olatunji, as distributing sachet alcohol to induce voters.
In a statement on Monday by Monsuru Adeyemo, made available to journalists in Ibadan, the group said the PDP and Governor Seyi Makinde have been rattled by Olatunji’s rising popularity and acceptance.
He said: “In this age of artificial intelligence, a genuine video evidence of such distribution would have been a convincing proof if it actually happened. But because of the lazy nature of PDP members, they resorted to using AI to generate a fake clip, which they shared to unsuspecting members of the public in a bid to blackmail the APC and its candidate.
“The people are too intelligent to be swayed by such a dangerous antic.”
Adeyemo described the allegation as a height of desperation by the PDP, saying its leader has been moving from “pole to post” seeking votes for what he called “a failed candidate”.
“In the coming days, we will expose more of the PDP-led government’s shenanigans ahead of this election,” he added.
The APC campaign urged media organisations to verify materials before publication to avoid being used as tools for political propaganda.
