NEWS broke on Saturday that former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson had been rushed to hospital.
The Scotsman is currently in intensive care after undergoing emergency surgery for a brain haemorrhage.
The news started filtering through on Saturday afternoon and appeared to be confirmed when Son Darren – who is the manager of Doncaster Rovers – missed their final league one game of the season.
Here is all you need to know about his family..
How many sons does Fergie have?
FERGUSON and his wife Cathy married in 1966 having met in 1964.
They have been together over 50 years and have three sons – Mark and twins Darren and Jason.
They also have 11 grandchildren.
What do Mark, Darren and Jason do?
DARREN is probably the most well known of Fergie’s sons after he followed in his father’s footsteps.
The 46-year-old is a former Manchester United, Wolves and Peterborough player and is currently the manager of Doncaster Rovers.
Since becoming a manager in 2007, he has had two spells at Peterborough – guiding them to League Two and League One promotions and a Checktrade Trophy title.
Eldest son Mark – 50 – is an investment banker whilst Darren’s twin brother runs an events management company.
What is the latest on Sir Alex Ferguson’s condition after his brain haemorrhage surgery?
A Manchester United statement said on Saturday: “Sir Alex Ferguson has undergone surgery today for a brain haemorrhage.
“The procedure has gone very well but he needs a period of intensive care to aid his recovery.
“His family request privacy in this matter. Everyone at Manchester United sends our very best wishes.”
On May 8 it was reported the legendary manager was “sitting up talking and asking about his results” – although this has yet to be confirmed by either Manchester United or Sir Alex’s family.
A source said: “The prognosis is good and his closest friends in football are being kept abreast of any developments.”
The following day (May 9) Sir Alex stunned his family by asking for the football scores he’d missed – after he was taken to hospital hours before son Darren’s Doncaster Rovers played host to Wigan on the last day of the season.
