OYO state government has said that the introduction of home-grown school feeding programme, an initiative of the Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government in collaboration with the state government has led to increase in the enrolment of pupils in public primary schools.
The state commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Ibadan, the state capital yesterday.
The commissioner stressed that the government was working towards ensuring that the current pupils’ enrolment which has increased by over ten thousand in all primary schools in the state within few months would be captured in the home-grown school feeding programme.
Olowofela further disclosed that Federal government has been contacted and they have assured that the hitch will be resolved soon, while explaining that the Federal government pays directly to the food vendors engaged to prepare meals for the pupils, noting that the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has the supervisory role which it has been performed dutifully.
He said, “the present administration led by Governor Abiola Ajimobi is working towards capturing all the pupils in primary 1-3 in the state”.
Similarly, the commissioner, who expressed satisfaction with the increased pupil’s enrolment averred that the programme is achieving its expected results, adding that the school children will have adequate nutrition and better learning.
