PEP GUARDIOLA admits he faces a battle to keep Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus happy.

The Manchester City manager’s tactics means he can only play the South American strikers together when Benjamin Mendy is in the team.

Guardiola said: “Of course they want to play.

“I know when they are not playing they’re really sad, but it’s the same for the other guys who don’t play.

“They can play together but I decided to play more with specific wingers and play with one striker.”

France full-back Mendy gives City pace on the left — and his injury has given Pep a headache as Fabian Delph cannot get forward in the same way.

That has meant starting Leroy Sane with either Aguero or Jesus starting on the bench.

City are unbeaten in the Premier League, but Guardiola expects to be blasted for keeping one of his strikers on the bench once they lose a game.

He added: “I assure you we are going to lose games and the debate will happen again about whether the way we play is acceptable for this league. That is going to happen.

“Until now I’ve decided to play in that way and it means it is one or the other.

“But I want to see how they will compete with each other.

“They have to know they have to play well, because if not they have another guy with the same level and quality to play.”

Guardiola concedes that for the moment Aguero and Jesus are likely to play together when City are chasing a game.

He said: “We can play with two strikers in the middle.
