Gareth Bale’s agent has joked there is more chance of him ‘going to the moon’ than there is Arsenal completing a deal for the Real Madrid superstar.
Welsh forward Bale has won four Champions League titles since joining Real from Premier League club Tottenham in 2013.
After Real Madrid’s most recent triumph in Europe – they beat Liverpool 3-1 in Kiev last month – Bale suggested his future could lie elsewhere.
Bale’s agent says his client must be guaranteed more regular game-time to stay put but was quick to reject the possibility of Arsenal signing the 28-year-old.
Asked whether, as an Arsenal fan, Bale could move to the Emirates, Jonathan Barnett told Sky Sports: ‘I’d love him to play there but it’s got as much chance as me going to the moon.’
He added: ‘I think we have to have a chat with Real Madrid and see where we’re going.
‘He wants a better year than he had last year. He wants to play more, and that’s paramount to him. I think he’s one of the top three or four players on earth.
‘For somebody like him, he has to play. It’s not about money. He wants to win the Ballon d’Or and I think he can.
‘I think he’s the best there has ever been in that sense (a British player abroad), unless someone can name me someone who’s been more successful.
‘I think that goal (in the Champions League final) elevated an interest in him. But we already knew how good he is. He doesn’t need to prove how good he is.
‘It was a magnificent goal and the timing was great too. He loves his life in Spain. He has three children, and he’s very happy there. But we have to see. He has to play football.’
Bale enjoyed six successful years at Tottenham but will not be returning to the club due to the huge finances in fees and wages that a prospective deal would include.
Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for the Wales international, with Jose Mourinho a known admirer, while Chelsea have shown interest.
As well as winning four Champions Leagues with Real Madrid, Bale has also clinched a La Liga title, a Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups.
