The National Hajj Commission (NAHCON) has announced a significant increase in the fare for the 2024 pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia, citing the ongoing foreign exchange crisis in Nigeria.
In a statement released on Sunday by NAHCON’s spokesperson, Fatima Sanda Usara, the commission disclosed that the fare has been raised by N1,918,032.91.
Initially, NAHCON had set the pilgrimage fare at N4.9 million for this year. However, due to the prevailing forex challenges, the commission has revised the fare, now requiring intending pilgrims to pay a total of N6.8 million.
Those who have already made payments are asked to add a balance of N1.9 million by March 28, 2024, to meet the revised fare deadline.
The decision to increase the fare underscores the financial strain caused by the foreign exchange crisis in the country.
NAHCON, responsible for organising Hajj activities for Nigerian Muslims, emphasised the necessity of adjusting the fare to ensure the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage while meeting essential logistical and operational requirements.
With the deadline set for March 28th, intending pilgrims are urged to make their payments promptly to secure their spots for the 2024 Hajj pilgrimage.
