No fewer than five persons were seriously injured in Ibadan South East Local Government Area of Oyo State, as supporters of two rival chairmanship aspirants of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) clashed, Mega Icon Magazine reliably gathered.
The clash involved supporters of Teslim Ogundeji and Alawode.
While confirming this development, an inside source told our reporter that the PDP weekly meeting held on Tuesday, 3rd September, 2019 at Christ Church Primary School, Odinjo, Ibadan, the state capital, though peaceful initially, but later turned violent leaving five persons seriously injured as supporters of Teslim Ogundeji clashed with the supporters of Alawode, another candidate.
“There was a clash and no one was killed but people were injured and they were later rushed to the hospital for treatment”, the source added.
He disclosed further that there were subterranean moves by top officials of the party to impose their chosen candidates as Council gaffers.
The source further warned the party leaders against imposition of candidates, ahead of the council poll.
Despite protests and legal battles, the state Governor, Mr. Seyi Makinde during a live television programme at the State-Owned Radio and Television stations – Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) as parts of events to mark the first hundred days on Thursday maintained that the Oyo state government is concluding plans to set up members of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) to conduct fresh elections into the 33 local government areas of the state.
“We are working on LGA, between now and 1.5 weeks, we will appoint people to OYISEC and we will conduct elections as promised”.
