In a recent address during an interdenominational church service commemorating Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day, the First Lady, Remi Tinubu, shed light on the challenges faced by President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

She acknowledged the growing discontent among citizens due to the tripling of fuel prices, a sharp devaluation of the naira, and soaring inflation rates, which currently stand at 25 percent.

These issues prompted the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to announce an indefinite strike scheduled for October 3, citing the government’s failure to address their grievances.

Remi Tinubu, while addressing the nation, stated that her husband, President Tinubu, is not a magician, implying that the problems facing the country are complex and multifaceted.

She emphasised that the Tinubu administration had inherited a multitude of challenges upon taking office. However, she expressed the government’s unwavering commitment to addressing the pressing issues that have been affecting the nation.

“We are not here to put blame on any administration but to fix what has been damaged,” the first lady said at the event held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja on Sunday.

“My husband is not a magician. He is going to work – brick by brick – and I believe and hope that you will have faith in this administration. The best is yet to come for us,” she added.

This message from the First Lady followed President Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast earlier in the day, where he addressed the nation on the occasion of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence Day.

The President’s administration faces the daunting task of finding solutions to the country’s economic woes, and the eyes of the nation are closely watching for concrete actions in the coming days.
