The Nigerian government has extended the public holiday for the Eid-El-Fitr celebration to Thursday, April 11, 2024.
This decision comes after the initial declaration of a two-day holiday for Tuesday and Wednesday last week. The adjustment follows the non-sighting of the crescent in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, indicating that the Eid celebration will occur on Wednesday instead.
A statement from the Ministry of Interior Permanent Secretary, Aishetu Gogo Ndayako, released early Tuesday, confirmed the extension: “The Federal Government has approved Thursday 11th April 2024 as an additional public holiday to celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Fitr.”
The statement further highlighted the sentiments of the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, who extended congratulations to the Muslim Ummah for the successful completion of a month of spiritual rejuvenation. The Minister also reiterated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to providing a safe and prosperous Nigeria for all citizens.
