The Chairman of the House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as a bold and reform-driven administration that is laying a solid foundation for Nigeria’s long-term growth and development.

Oseni, who represents Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency of Oyo State, said in a statement on Thursday through his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, that President Tinubu’s two years in office had been marked by bold reforms that reset the nation’s economic trajectory, revived investor confidence, and strengthened the government’s fiscal standing.

He pointed to the removal of fuel subsidy and unification of foreign exchange rates as the most consequential reforms so far, noting that the policies have significantly boosted government revenue, with over ₦9.1tn recorded in the first half of 2024—more than double the amount during the same period in 2023.

The lawmaker also applauded the clearing of a $5bn backlog in foreign exchange obligations, which he said helped stabilise the naira, attract foreign investments, and build confidence in Nigeria’s financial system.

On infrastructure, Oseni hailed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway as transformative projects that will boost interstate commerce, improve logistics, and create jobs across 16 states. He said FERMA has also received renewed federal support for road maintenance under Tinubu’s leadership.

Oseni described the successful rehabilitation of the Port Harcourt refinery and the increase in oil production to 1.61 million barrels per day as key achievements that will reduce Nigeria’s reliance on fuel importation and strengthen the nation’s energy security.

He also cited improvements in national security, noting that over 4,600 kidnapped persons have been rescued and more than 9,000 terrorists and criminals neutralised under the current administration. He praised the establishment of the 2,200-strong Mines Marshal Corps to combat illegal mining and protect natural resources.

The lawmaker highlighted the administration’s push for inclusive growth through social investment, including ₦50bn disbursed as nano-grants to small businesses and the launch of a ₦200bn consumer credit scheme to help Nigerians access essential goods and services.

He praised the launch of the Student Loan Scheme, with ₦95.6bn approved to support tertiary students, and the rollout of agricultural reforms such as the ₦100bn National Agricultural Development Fund and a dry season farming initiative covering 500,000 hectares.

Oseni urged Nigerians to support the Tinubu administration, stressing that “real reform takes time.” He said: “This government is building the blocks for a prosperous future. The results may not all be immediate, but the direction is right and the foundation is strong.”
