Chairman, House Committee on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and lawmaker representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, has congratulated Mr. Akeem Abas of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on his emergence as Chairman of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
Oseni, in a statement issued by his media aide, Idowu Ayodele, and made available to newsmen in Ibadan, described Abas’ victory as a strong expression of confidence by media professionals in Oyo State, noting that the council had once again shown dedication to internal democracy and the highest ideals of journalism.
He extended his felicitations to all newly elected officials of the union, stressing that their emergence comes at a time when Nigeria requires responsible, fact-driven, and development-oriented journalism.
According to the FERMA Committee Chairman, “The election of Mr. Akeem Abas and his team is a clear testament to the trust reposed in their abilities and professional pedigree. I firmly believe they will consolidate on existing achievements and steer the Oyo NUJ toward greater unity, relevance, and institutional strength.”
The APC chieftain also paid tribute to the outgoing chairman, Alhaji Ademola Babalola, whom he praised for providing what he called “visionary, courageous and impactful leadership” during his tenure.
“Alhaji Babalola’s tenure stands out for its vibrancy.” the statement read.
The FERMA Committee Chairman urged the new leadership to deepen professionalism, uphold ethical standards, and sustain the atmosphere of stability.
He prayed for a successful tenure for the newly elected officers and reaffirmed his support for initiatives that enhance press freedom, ensure journalists’ safety, and promote responsible civic communication.
