The FA will await the report from match referee Andre Marriner before deciding whether to investigate Paul Pogba’s reaction after being sent off against Arsenal.
The Manchester United midfielder was seen sarcastically clapping as he left the field at The Emirates after being red carded for an ugly 74 minute challenge on Arsenal full back Hector Bellerin as Jose Mourinho’s stars led 3-1.
The £89million Frenchman will get an automatic three match ban for violent conduct ruling him out of next Sunday’s derby clash with Manchester City as well as Premier League games against Bournemouth and West Brom.
And he will be nervously awaiting Marriner’s interpretation of his clapping gesture with the FA able to increase his punishment if they decide he’s breached rules.
Although the 24-year-old is a big miss for the vital clash with City, Pogba is free to play in United’s next match in the Champions League against CSKA Moscow at Old Trafford tomorrow. with Mourinho’s stars almost in the knock-out phase.
Mourinho defended his star – who made two assists in the exciting win at Arsenal – saying: “Paul is very frustrated because everyone know he is a clean player and it was not his intention to be close to a red card.”
