Olakunle Oluomo, former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, along with principal officers Dayo Samuel and Adeyemo Adedeji, faced arraignment before the Federal High Court in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

The proceedings, presided over by Justice O.O Okeke, were initiated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of misappropriating public funds amounting to N2.5 billion.

The alleged financial fraud transpired during Oluomo’s tenure as Speaker in 2022. Eighteen out of 26 house members reportedly endorsed his impeachment, citing reasons such as highhandedness, gross misconduct, arrogance, poor leadership, lack of focus, and transparency, which purportedly fueled internal discord.

Oluomo, contesting his removal, approached the state high court. However, as the trio entered the dock on Monday, the court noted the absence of the counsel representing the anti-graft agency.

The case, consequently, has been adjourned to the 29th of February and 1st of March, marking a pivotal moment in the legal proceedings against the former Speaker and his co-accused officers.
