Didier Drogba has joked that he might have had ‘holy water’ as after taking a sip from a bottle he inspired Phoenix Rising to come back to beat La Galaxy II 4-3.

Drogba’s side were 3-2 down in the United Soccer League match on Friday before he took a gulp from a water bottle.

In the 70th minute as Drogba waited to take a corner kick he drank some water out of a bottle belonging to two children at the side of the pitch.

Drogba wrote on his instragram page: “What’s in that water?!?? Ask @berkebakay and @markddetmer kids ??? might be holy water ?? Great come back from the boys and the fans were just ???? thank you @phxrisingfc”

Jason Johnson headed the resulting corner home to equalise for Phoenix.

Johnson ran over to celebrate the goal with Drogba who decided to celebrate by grabbing the bottle again and pouring water over his head.

Drogba then went on to score the winner from the penalty spot in the 78th minute.

The forward posted a clip of him drinking the water and the resulting corner alongside the caption: What’s in that water?!?? Ask @berkebakay and @markddetmer kids, might be holy water. Great come back from the boys and the fans were just (fire emojis) thank you @phxrisingfc.’

Galaxy took the lead through Efrain Alvarez but Johnson brought Phoenix level before Ulysses Llanez and Hugo Arellano made it 3-1 to Galaxy before half-time.

Alessandro Riggi pulled one goal back for Phoenix two minutes after the restart.

Phoenix completed the comeback following Drogba’s drink 20 minutes from time.
