Denmark to tighten underage alcohol sales

Denmark is taking measures to address rising alcohol and nicotine consumption among minors.

Sales of drinks exceeding 6% alcohol will be prohibited for those aged 16 to 18.

Additionally, taxes on snus will be doubled, equalising their price with cigarettes.

The Health Ministry aims to discourage early and excessive drinking, targeting the appeal of flavoured snus to younger consumers.

The move responds to concerning statistics, with 22% of girls and 27% of boys weekly drinking by age 15, and a 2019 study indicating that 40% of 15-to-16-year-old Danes had been drunk in the past 30 days, the highest in Europe.
