The South West Group of Online Publishers (SWEGOP) has commended the Oyo state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde for his new approach in the fight against coronavirus since he resumed back as the head of the State COVID-19 Task Force.
SWEGOP also congratulated the governor on his recovery from coronavirus disease.
The group further described Makinde’s negative status as a special intervention from God and a sign of overall victory against the pandemic which has been ravaging the whole world.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Mr Olayinka Agboola and PRO, Remi Oladoye, the online publishers described Governor Makinde’s decision to carry out COVID-19 test on 10,000 persons in the state and upgrading of 100-bed isolation centre (infectious disease centre), Olodo, as decisive and timely.
“The governor’s recent actions in the fight against Coronavirus since he resumed back to work is highly commendable. It has really showed that Oyo State, as the biggest of the states in the South West, is leading by example,” the statement said.
SWEGOP, however, called on Makinde not to relent in his efforts to defeat Coronavirus and take more actions that will bring the deadly disease to its quick end.
It would be recalled that SWEGOP, in an earlier statement, had called on South West states to as a matter of urgency, conduct random COVID-19 tests among residents in different parts of major cities of the zone, instead of selective testing of the high and mighty.
This move, according to the media group, will help the state governments to ascertain the true figure of those who might have been affected and also allow it prepare for the challenges ahead in the fight against the deadly coronavirus.
