COVID-19: Oyo Govt Warns Against Tyre Burning By Community Vigilantes

An appeal has gone to the people of Oyo State to desist from act of burning tires on the road, especially by community Vigilantes.

This appeal was contained in a statement issued by the Chairman, Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency OYSROMA, Hon. Kamil Akinlabi Mudashiru on Tuesday in Ibadan.

According to him, the agency noted the fact that it was a trying period for the entire world, but thanked the people of Oyo State for their support and cooperation for Governor Seyi Makinde, in fighting the novel virus.

“However, we note with concerns, the act of burning tires on our roads which will destroy the asphaltic layer of the road, hence weakening the road and shortening its capacity to last.

“This is constituting additional problems on our roads, as the roads that we’re recently rehabilitated or reconstructed are spoilt by this act,” he noted.

Akinlabi who said the State government was aware of the hardship faced and sacrifices made by the people, particularly on the security challenges in some areas, which necessitated the burning of tires on the roads, added that the act of burning tires on the road would only create additional problems for such roads.

Hon. Kamil Akinlabi therefore called on the people of the state to desist from the act of burning tires while enjoining them to stay safe and continue to be law abiding most especially at this challenging period of Covid-19.

” Our people should please stop the act of burning tires on the roads as this weakens the asphaltic layer of the road thereby creating room for water to penetrate and subsequently create pot-holes. ”

He added that roads and other government facilities should be protected for the benefit of all and sundry.
