A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Oyo state, Chief Adeniyi Akintola SAN, has stressed the need for peace in the state party, ahead of the stakeholders meeting billed for tomorrow in Abuja.
The legal luminary described the protracted crisis rocking the party as a bad omen, saying it must be put to rest so that the party could make progress. He noted that the party leaders and elders in the state will not fold their arms and watch things degenerate.
It would be recalled that there were unresolved issues with the ward, local government and state congresses of the party earlier conducted in Oyo state which has further polarised its fragile unity and threatened the camaraderie among major stakeholders and gladiators.
He confirmed that the National leadership of the party will meet on Thursday with the Oyo APC stakeholders in Abuja in a bid to resolving the crisis sorrounding the election of the new party officials.
The Director General, Niyi Akintola Campaign Organization, Barrister Adeniyi Oyekunle, who confirmed the development in a statement on Wednesday, also disclosed that the guber hopeful has received the invitation for the meeting.
“The air around Ibadan , Oyo State capital pulsates with uncertainty. Among genuine APC members the expectation is the next move after the fowling up of the air with the putrid smell of the Kangaroo Congress purportedly affirming a candidate when the platform to do that had not been confirmed by the party Secretariat.
“In the meantime, a rumour filtered in on Tuesday that the APC party headquarters has finally responded and has scheduled a stakeholders meeting for 1PM on Thursday at Buhari House in Abuja.
“Our legal luminary and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Niyi Akintola had been notified of the said meeting therefore I can confirm the veracity of the meeting with Mai Mala Buni in Abuja which will hopefully lead to a genuine Congress on November 6.
“Chief Akintola had earlier persuaded aggrieved party members to toe the line of peace and steer clear of anything that will put them in the same class with the people attempting to steal the collective rights of all law abiding APC members. The party elders will not allow this indiscretion to tarnish the image of APC going into 2023”, Oyekunle said.
