Less than hours to the bye-election in Oyo State, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have taken to protest against the party leadership over what they described as neglect, deception, and lack of welfare.
In a viral video sighted by Mega Icon Magazine, some of the aggrieved members, who served as agents during the 2023 general elections, lamented that they were yet to be paid their allowances nearly two years after the polls.
The protest broke out at a stakeholders’ meeting when one of the organisers attempted to pacify the gathering to work for the party in today’s election. But he was interrupted midway as an angry member snatched the microphone, saying:
“We’ve not been paid our agent fees since the last gubernatorial election. Our efforts were in futility because the party never rectified the issue.”
He further alleged neglect during the burial of the late Omololu Olunloyo, where members were mobilised to welcome the governor but later abandoned.
“We stood in the rain that day. After the event, we went back to the council secretariat but were told the chairman had gone out. Our names were taken, yet till today, we haven’t received a penny. Two days to another election, and they are still deceiving us. Since 9 am we’ve been here, no refreshment, no transport fare. This is unfair,” he said.
Other protesters accused the PDP of “political slavery,” lamenting that the party wasted their time and resources.
“We left our businesses since morning. If we were at our shops, we would have made money. Instead, we came here and got nothing. No food, no fare. This is uncalled for. Iyà tító gé o,” they chorused.
