Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari on Friday expressed shock over the sudden death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and other military officers, adding that he’s deeply saddened over the air crash that claimed their lives.
Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru and seven others died in a plane crash on Friday on an official visit to the northern state of Kaduna, which has had security challenges in recent months.
President Buhari, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina condoles with families of the deceased, the military, and Nigerians in general, describing them as “heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and security in the land.”
While praying that God receives the souls of the patriots, Buhari noted that the crash “is one mortal blow to our underbelly, at a time our armed forces are poised to end the security challenges facing the country.”
He, however pledged that the departed would not die in vain.
