‘Budgets of local government areas will address grassroot needs’ – Oyo govt.

Oyo State Government has enjoined Local Government managements to present people-oriented budgets, adding that this would align the government’s four cardinal point agenda and address grassroot needs.

While speaking at a sensitization programme held for Local Government Management staffs today in Ibadan, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon Olufunmilayo Orisadeyi, reiterated the state government’s stance on having an all-inclusive and realistic budget that will cater for the basic needs of local government areas.

Mrs. Orisadeyi assured that the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration is poised to have a working third tier of government that will be in tune with delivering on the four-cardinal agenda of Health, Security, Education and Agribusiness which is rudimentary to the survival of every human.

The commissioner advised the local government management not to present a bogus and unachievable budget, citing that the governor readjusted the 2019 state budget passed by the initial administration to meet the yearnings of the citizens.

The Permanent Secretary, Mr. Tunde Adeyanju, in his remarks, said the sensitization programme is geared towards telling them the governments policy direction and guiding them by giving direction on their budget.

He advised the planning team to make a budget in line with their income expectation, overhead cost and revenue so that the planned action can be executed as budgeted.

He stated that the local government areas outside Ibadan metropolis have predominant occupation of farmers, he admonished them to lightly tax this population as they are mostly subsistent.
