The Bauchi State Teachers’ Service Commission has ordered the immediate removal and demotion of the Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Kirfi, Mr. Musa Ahmed Ningi, over alleged gross misconduct.
Also affected is the school’s Senior Master, Malam Adamu Shehu, who was dismissed for colluding with the principal in the unauthorized sale of government property belonging to the school.
This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commission’s Information Officer, Dahiru Adamu.
According to the statement, the sold items include 32 scrapped student beds, nine jumbo aluminum pots, and an unspecified number of roofing zinc sheets.
The Commission stated that the disciplinary actions were taken following the findings of a four-man investigative committee, which concluded that the two officials were culpable.
“The action was approved following the submission of the report of the investigation committee constituted to look into the allegations. The principal and the senior master were found guilty of gross misconduct and abuse of office,” the statement read.
The overseeing Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Garba Muhammad Bashe, who signed the statement, further revealed that both officials have been demoted by one grade level and redeployed as classroom teachers to different schools.
In addition, the Commission directed the two to jointly refund the sum of ₦597,000, being the assessed value of the sold items.
The former principal was also directed to refund ₦72,000, which represents unpaid allowances for casual workers at the school.
Reiterating its commitment to accountability in the education sector, the Commission assured stakeholders that efforts are underway to recover all vandalized and illegally sold school property. It also pledged to collaborate with security agencies to ensure that those involved are held accountable.
