Isyaku Babale, a 30-year-old resident of Anguwan Dawaki, Bauchi metropolis, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police for culpable homicide.
The arrest followed a fatal altercation between Babale and his older brother, Abubakar Balewa, which resulted in Balewa’s death.
According to Ahmed Wakili, the Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, preliminary investigations revealed that Babale used a knife to stab his brother after an argument on March 31, 2024, at approximately 0400hrs.
Upon receiving a report, detectives from the Township Police Station swiftly responded, leading to Babale’s apprehension.
Despite efforts to save him, Balewa was pronounced dead at the Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH). Further investigations unveiled a history of violent clashes between the brothers, often involving dangerous weapons.
Wakili disclosed, “The tragic incident was due to an altercation that ensued following the suspect’s plea to the deceased brother to stop taking Cold Patch liquid… in their room because of the unpleasant odour of the liquid.” He elaborated that after a failed mediation, Babale resorted to violence, fatally stabbing his brother in the stomach with a sharp object believed to be a knife.
“Following the report, a manhunt ensued, leading to Babale’s arrest near Kasuwan Shanu area of Bauchi metropolis”.
