The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested Salamatu Danjuma, a 25-year-old resident of Nadabo village in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, in connection with the tragic death of her husband following a domestic dispute.
This was revealed in a statement by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Ahmed Wakil, on Monday. According to the police, the couple had been experiencing marital difficulties, particularly related to the custody of Salamatu’s six-year-old daughter from a previous relationship.
Wakil explained that despite initial discussions that seemed to suggest the husband would accept the child into their home, he later refused, which escalated tensions between the couple.
The situation took a dire turn when Salamatu, feeling cornered by her husband’s refusal, engaged in a heated argument with him. In the course of this altercation, she allegedly used a knife from their bedroom, leading to fatal injuries to her husband.
The statement further revealed that detectives from the Bununu Police Divisional Headquarters were quickly dispatched to the scene. They promptly evacuated the victim to the Cottage Hospital in Bununu for medical treatment. Sadly, the husband was pronounced dead by medical staff due to the severity of his injuries.
In response to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Mohammed, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to carry out a thorough investigation into the matter. The outcome of the inquiry will determine the appropriate legal actions to be taken.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
