The Nigerian Senate has passed the long awaited bill for Local Government Area Autonomy into an act, with the assent of the president, Muhammadu Buhari.
The bill according to the Senate, is with immediate effect.
Senator Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District disclosed this on Saturday through his twitter handle – ‘Senator Shehu Sani’.
“We are proud to pass the NFIU bill which became an act with the assent of Mr President;And now the LGs funds will be safely in the account and control of the LGs. The LGs Have now being liberated”, he tweeted.
The lawmaker, however urged the council chairmen to be prudent and transparent to avoid traps.
