Arsene Wenger ‘turns down job at Saint-Etienne’ days after final game as Arsenal boss

Arsene Wenger has reportedly turned down an offer to take over as Saint-Etienne’s new boss.

The Frenchman took charge of his final game as Arsenal manager last Sunday as he watched his side beat Huddersfield 1-0.

And he has already been offered a route back into management in his homeland.

According to Le Sport, Saint-Etienne have been in contact about Wenger replacing Jean-Louis Gasset, despite him leading the club to an eighth-place finish in Ligue Une.

The club endured a turbulent season, initially replacing Oscar Garcia with former player Julien Sable who it emerged did not hold the relevant qualifications.

Wenger is expected to take some time to consider his options before returning to work.

Arsenal hold talks with Jean-Michael Seri – but Chelsea are in pole position

Arsenal have held talks with Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri – but are set to be beaten to his signature by Chelsea.

The Gunners were among the sides to try and sign Seri last summer, along with Barcelona, but he stayed

Another impressive term has seen the 26-year-old valued at around £40million – and it is the Blues who are in pole position to secure his services.

Eighteen-cap Ivory Coast international Seri made 30 appearances in Ligue 1 this term, scoring two goals as Nice finished sixth in the French top flight.

He arrived at Nice from Pacos de Ferreira in 2015 having begun his career in his native country with ASEC Mimosas.
