Arsene Wenger has attempted to explain the major difference between Manchester City’s unbeaten run and the one completed by Arsenal’s Invincibles.
From May 2003 to October 2004 the Gunners went 49 games unbeaten before finally losing 2-0 in a feisty match against Manchester United.
They finished top of the table in the 2003/04 season, on 90 points, to become the first Premier League team to go an entire campaign without losing.
Manchester City have kick-started this season in electric form. They’ve won their last 15 games on the trot, and are unbeaten in their first 17 matches.
There are claims that Pep Guardiola’s side could repeat what Arsenal managed all those years ago, and go this campaign without losing a fixture.
Discussing the differences between his old Arsenal side and this current Manchester City outfit, Wenger said: “They have petrol and ideas.
“We had no petrol and ideas. There’s still a long way to go. But they have the quality to make things go their way. It’s still not easy.”
Manchester City played host to Arsenal in November in the Premier League, and beat them 3-1 at the Etihad. Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus were all on the scoresheet that day.
