Arsene Wenger has vowed to end final chapter in his Arsenal love story with an upset against Atletico Madrid.
The Gunners boss – who leaves after 22 years this summer – wants to bow out with the Europa League trophy in Lyon next month.
But Arsenal have to score tonight to have any chance of going through after last week’s 1-1 draw at the Emirates. Wenger said: “I think I like to finish my job well.
“A man has to give his best and as long as he is somewhere he has to show commitment and energy. Until the last day I will focus on Arsenal. I want to finish this love story well.”
Diego Simeone’s men have lost just two home games all season. Crucially, they have not conceded at the Wanda since January.
But Wenger added: “The history has to stop somewhere. That’s what we will try to do. We created chances in the first game and we will recreate exactly the same situation.
“We just didn’t manage to put those chances in the net. We will keep exactly the same commitment, focus on how well we attack and build the game up from the back.”
Arsenal have yet to win a single game away from home in the Premier League this season.
But Wenger pointed to the club’s victories against AC Milan and Ostersunds to insist his side have been a different proposition in Europe.
He added: “In Europe we have done well away. We have neglected a bit the Premier League away from home.
“Overall I think this is just a game where you focus on your performance and don’t worry too much about the Premier League.”
