Armed Robbers Ambush, Shoot Road Safety Officer in Kogi

In a brazen daylight robbery on Friday, armed assailants targeted a road safety officer identified only as Abu, as he made his way home from a bank in Zango, Lokoja, Kogi State.

Abu was violently robbed of an unspecified amount of money by the gunmen, who fired multiple shots at him during the incident.

An eyewitness recounted that the robbers trailed Abu on his motorcycle from the bank to Lokongoma Phase One, where they intercepted him near Lokongoma market. A struggle ensued over the money, resulting in Abu being shot three times in his legs and shoulder.

Confirming the incident, the Kogi State Police Command reported recovering N139,000 from the scene of the crime. Abu was promptly rushed to the hospital for urgent medical treatment following the attack.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, provided further details, stating, “At exactly 1:30 pm, officers received a distress call and rushed to the scene at Lokongoma, Phase One in Lokoja. They found Abu, a road safety officer, injured from gunshot wounds to both legs and shoulder.”

He continued, “He was accosted by assailants in an Ash-colored Toyota Camry who blocked him in front of Lokongoma market, Phase One in Lokoja, and robbed him of an unspecified sum of money.”

Commissioner of Police Bertrand Onuoha has since deployed additional personnel to the scene to ensure public safety and apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the attack.
