Oyo south senatorial aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Kolawole Asanike , on Saturday gained recognition at the party’s national convention held in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
A group of politicians named Ayeyemi had earlier arrived the nation’s capital to show its support for Prince Asanike.
APC delegates across the country had on Saturday converged at the Eagle’s Square to elect new executives who will take over the affairs of the party from the Governor Mai Mala Buni led Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, CECPC.
The convention which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari is in line with part of the Independent Electoral Commission’s regulations in preparation for the 2023 general elections.
At the Eagle’s Square, posters bearing Asanike’s aspiration were seen donning all spaces on Friday evening.
A contingent of men and women from Oyo State were seen at the Eagle’s Square; venue of the convention and in some populous locations in the capital drumming support for Asanike – their principal as an article of faith and love.
In a chat with Prince Sheriff Adedeji, the Personal Assistant to Asanike said they were in Abuja “not only for the party’s convention but to celebrate Prince Kola Asanike” in the eyes of the people.
” We are here in Abuja for many reasons. It is not only for the party’s convention but also to celebrate our principal, Prince Asanike.
Also commenting, another supporter and a leader from the Southeast local government area of Oyo State where the aspirant hails, who identified himself simply as Comrade Raji expressed his satisfaction in the size of the continent that came to Abuja to give moral support to the accountant turned politician.
“Although, it is true we are here for the convention of our party, it is our pleasure to market to the world the quality of our product. We believe in Asanike as a man of integrity whose honesty and righteousness are tested”, he said.
In a related development, the Director-General, Asanike Campaign Organization, Alh. Mojeed Atere assured that his priincipal, a scion of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, HRH, Alh Yiusuf Oloyede Asanike, would not behave like the usual political functionary if voted as Senator in 2023 election.
“I’m his righthand man, you know what stake I represent and its implication to my personal image. What you’re seeing in Abuja as a reflection of support is nothing compared to what is obtained in Oyo State.”
