Alexandre Lacazette explains why he and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can play together for Arsenal

Alexandre Lacazette believes he and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can both play in the Arsenal first XI, despite Arsene Wenger’s preference for a lone striker.

The Frenchman bagged two goals against CSKA Moscow on Thursday night as the Gunners won their Europa League quarter-final first leg 4-1.

It was Lacazette’s second game back after spending more than a month out with an injury. The 26-year-old also converted a penalty against Stoke on Sunday.

Prior to his surgery, Lacazette had found the back of the net just once in 13 appearances. His goal drought forced Arsenal to sign Aubameyang, who has since scored five goals in seven appearances.

With both strikers scoring, it poses a problem for Wenger who usually deploys just one striker in his formations.

However, Lacazette sees no reason why he and Aubameyang can’t play together.

“He is different player, he loves the space and I’m a player who loves to get the ball to my feet,” said the France striker.

“Auba is a nice guy. I think we can be good together,” Lacazette added. “After the first penalty against Stoke he told me, ‘If there is another one I will give you the ball’ so it was nice from him.

“It was good for my confidence. It shows that, even if we are strikers, we can think about everyone in the team and we are not focused only to score goals.

“I think we can play together like Sunday but the coach will decide and we need to respect the decision, but I like how Pierre plays and I think we can be good together.”
