Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain admitted the intensity of Jurgen Klopp’s style of football made the transition from Arsenal to Liverpool a testing one.
The England international has been made to wait for his chance to impress since his deadline day move from the Gunners but has shown flashes of his best form in recent weeks.
The 24-year-old made his first Premier League start for the Reds on Saturday and played a prominent role in a convincing 4-1 win, scoring the game clinching third goal.
Klopp singled out Oxlade-Chamberlain for praise in midweek following the Champions League win over Maribor, citing his counter-pressing as being particularly impressive, and the former Southampton youngster believes he is finally getting to grips with the demands of his new boss.
‘It takes time to settle in anywhere & learn the new style of play, we play a very intense game that takes time,’ he told BT Sport.
‘I’m getting there and it’s important every time I get opportunities to show what I can do and that’s scoring goals.’
On the win over the struggling Hammers, Oxlade-Chamberlain added: ‘It definitely wasn’t an easy game though it was very intense game especially when they made it 2-1.
‘It was crucial that we responded well and we did that and from then on it was just important that we defended well. They had a game plan to go long to Andy and did that very well, we had to defend really well.
‘On the counter with the boys up front we were a threat & we proved that time + time again & created a lot of chances.’
