The College of Agriculture and Technology, Igbo Ora, Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Saki, and Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo are three new beneficiaries of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) initiatives with the provision of 100 E-PADs each.
The provision is under the commission’s Advanced Digital Economy and Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme.
The Advanced Digital Awareness Programme for Tertiary Institutions (ADAPTI) is aimed at bridging the digital gaps that exist in academia by providing computers, other ICT equipment, and the necessary facilities to provide lecturers, staff, and students with the requisite ICT skills essential for the 21st Century.
The NCC supplies computers and other ICT equipment, including scanners and printers to the beneficiary institutions. This includes also, the provision of suites of E-Learning applications for academics and students in tertiary institutions across the country.
The objective of this programme is, specifically, to provide the tools that will enable familiarity and confidence in the utilization of ICT in teaching, research, and learning.
Since its introduction in 2008, more than 300 institutions of higher learning have been beneficiaries of the programme.
In letters addressed to the heads of the three institutions, the NCC noted that the provisions were made on the recommendation of Professor Adeolu Akande, Chairman of the Commission.
The University of Ibadan, Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso, The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oke Ogun Polytechnic, Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, and the Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic, all tertiary institutions in Oyo State have benefitted from many initiatives of the NCC on the recommendation of Professor Akande.
These are in addition to thousands of students and youths who have been exposed to physical and online training programmes of the NCC in the quest to provide requisite skills for the emerging digital economy in Nigeria.
