THE wife of Oyo state Governor, Dr Florence Ajimobi has encouraged teachers to inculcate the habit of reading in secondary school students.
Dr Ajimobi gave this charge today when she inaugurated an e-library project donated by the 1970-1974 set of St. Anne’s School, Molete, Ibadan.
While recounting her experience in secondary school, Mrs Ajimobi revealed that the school had a reading plan for students to read at least a book per week for self development, better language use and vocabulary enhancement, while also advising the student to personally imbibe the reading culture because readers are truly leaders.
She also advocated that every child should be in school during school hours and should only be found supporting their parents after the close of school, adding that on no occasion should a child be left hawking when the child should be in school.
She asserted that the Abiola Ajimobi-led administration is poised to improve the standard of education by investing billions of naira in infrastructural development and capacity building in the educational sector.
The First Lady explained that, as part of her passion for education, she has invested in educating children in the rural areas through her Educate a Rural Child programme which provides all the basic academic needs of a child and of schools in these areas.
The wife of the state governor maintained that ICT is very important to every facet of human life. This prompted her to establish the four ICT centres in Oyo State to reduce the rate of ICT illiteracy in the state.
She pledged to support the e-library in its continuous running to serve more of the students enrolled in the school.
The president of the association, Mrs Olubukunola Orekoya, in her address said the class set deemed it fit to give back to the source that nurtured them, which is why they are donating the project for the future generation to benefit.
She said the project is a corporate social responsibility to improve the academic capacity of students as e books will be accessible in the library.
In her opening address, the school Principal, Mrs Orowale appreciated the class set for the kind gesture to the school, assuring that the e-library will be put to good use.
