THE Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi on Tuesday commended the giant stride of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, (JAMB) coupled with continuous improvement on the admission process.
The governor who was represented by the state’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adeniyi Olowofela at the JAMB’s 2018 policy meeting at Gbongan, Osun State said the giant strides includes migration from paper to pencil test to computer based test, Zero tolerance for examination malpractices, incorporation of relevant stakeholders in the admission process and among others in the activities of JAMB.
He added that all these laudable achievements have placed JAMB in an enviable and a point to be proud of saying Oyo state government and all her tertiary institutions will continue to collaborate positively with agency in a bid to deliver her mandate.
The governor however enjoined the examination agency not to be seen as a revenue generating agency but reduce the registration fee for the examination to have an inclusive participation for all deserving students who may incapacitated in terms of finances.
He also enjoined the agency to consider the candidates choice for each category of choice of institutions candidates want as this would reduce the difficulties encountered in having the candidates to change their choice of institution at a cost.

Meanwhile, as part of effort to reduce to a barest minimum, the problems associated with the manual processing of admission, the JAMB’s registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede said the Board has introduced an automated system of admission called “Central Admission Processing System” (CAPS).
According to the registrar, the system was to streamline the admission process and empower institutions with better information for decision making adding that under this system, candidates can process change of course, change of institution and defer admission easily, which would save a lot of cost to both institutions and candidates.
He noted that CAPS would not replace the admission-process of each institution but enable institutions communicate with JAMB in a more dynamic timely manner, allow institutions to decide their Admission parameters and have all the facts.
He highlighted advantages of CAPS as follows: “tracking of the process of admission; flexibility allowed for institutions; institutions can download admission data at any time; student’s status can be updated throughout their academic life in the institution; other government agencies can easily use this for data for official purposes (e.g. NYSC, Scholarship boards); and tracking of admission deferment, transfer, withdrawal, rustication, expulsion and death.
