A former Commissioner for Health and governorship aspirant under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, Dr Azeez Adeduntan on Monday returned to his office as the state Commissioner for Health.
It would be recalled that Dr. Adeduntan withdrawn from the governorship primary election at the eleventh hour.
According to Mr Olaolu Bilau, Press Secretary to Adeduntan Campaign Organisation, in a terse statement issued on his social media page : “One of the last seven governorship aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, Dr. Azeez Popoola Adeduntan, will not be participating in the APC governorship primary holding on Sunday, September 30, 2018.”
Although Adeduntan did not state any reason for the withdrawal from the contest, but promised he “will in due course provide further clarification on the matter”.
After the emergence of Mr Bayo Adelabu as the party’s governorship candidate, the international surgeon, Adeduntan suddenly disappeared from the political space.
Confirming this development, a source who sought anonymity confided to Mega Icon Magazine that the ex- commissioner for Health, Adeduntan attended the state Executive Council meeting on Monday.
Our reporter also learnt that Governor Abiola Ajimobi last Friday played host to both the aspirants and candidates of the party at the Agodi Government House where he was able to resolve conflicting interests.
“The governor promised to take care of all the aspirants. Some would regain their appointments, while others are expected to secure fresh appointments.
“Dr Adeduntan has returned to his office, he attended the state Executive meeting yesterday. In fact, the aspirants have submitted their CVs”, the source hinted.
He disclosed further that the governor asked the party faithfuls to see politics as a tool for development rather than being a platform for oppression.
“Our principal, Governor Ajimobi urged them to work together as a team to achieve victory for APC in the state”, the source added.
