5 candidates likely to be considered by Arsenal as Arsene Wenger faces more pressure after Wembley shocker

Arsene Wenger is coming under increased pressure following Arsenal’s Wembley collapse.

The Gunners were well-beaten by Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

Wenger’s contract is up at the end of next season but his position is set to be reviewed in the summer

It will be the biggest threat to his tenure in north London, that now stretches 22 years.

Mirror Sport understands the club is now looking at succession planning, with a number of names likely to be considered.

Here are the potential candidates.

Joachim Low

The Germany boss has a contract until 2020, but is it time to seek a challenge?

Low has been in his current position since 2006 – and hasn’t managed in club football since two years prior.

Sources close to Low doubt whether the Germany manager would give an answer until after the World Cup.

Would a successful defence of the crown in Russia see him walk away?

Leonardo Jardim

Jardim has caught the eye of Arsenal chiefs with his brand of football at Monaco.

The Ligue 1 side won the title last season after competing with Paris Saint Germain’s wealth.

He also has Champions League experience and a record of nurturing young talent.

Monaco’s successful side is coming to its end and it may be time for Jardim to move on.

Paulo Fonseca

Fonseca is attracting a lot of interest from England due to his work at Shakhtar.

He was believed to be on Everton’s shortlist after they axed Ronald Koeman but the Ukraine club blocked the deal.

Fonseca has revealed he wants to work in the Premier League and is one of the most highly-rated bosses on the continent.

Brendan Rodgers

How many times can Rodgers win the title at Celtic?

The Northern Irishman looked to restore his reputation north of the border and has done just that.

He would surely jump at the chance to return to the Premier League after how it ended at Liverpool and they don’t come much bigger than at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta

Arteta is a serious contender despite his lack of front line experience.

The Spaniard captained Arsenal during his five seasons at the club and is highly thought-of by the Emirates board.

He is currently learning his craft under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City but is undoubtedly eyeing a No.1 job when the time is right.
