Ahead of the 2027 general elections, key political heavyweights under the banner of the National Opposition Coalition Group (NOCG) have initiated moves to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress by floating a new political party—All Democratic Alliance (ADA).
A letter dated May 19, 2025, and addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), formally requested the registration of the newly formed political association. The request was signed by former Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, and Umar Ardo, serving as Chairman and Secretary of the group’s New Platform Committee (NPC), respectively.
The opposition move is chaired by a former Senate President, David Mark, and is seen as a major signal of a broader coalition forming ahead of 2027.
The development followed a strategic meeting held by the coalition in Abuja on May 6, where it resolved to constitute the NPC—a 15-member body tasked with midwifing the new political platform.
According to the statement released by the group, subsequent meetings of the committee led to the approval of the name “All Democratic Alliance (ADA)”, as well as the party’s logo, slogan, and motto.
At the NPC’s latest sitting on Thursday, June 19, 2025, the committee adopted the ADA’s manifesto and constitution. It also appointed an interim leadership structure to steer the affairs of the new platform pending full registration by INEC.
Chief Akin A. Ricketts emerged as the Protem National Chairman, while Abdullahi Musa Elayo was named Protem National Secretary.
The interim leaders were mandated to secure a functional party office, open a bank account for financial operations, and kick-start the organizational activities of the ADA in compliance with the 2022 Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.
The move comes amid heightened political tension and rumours of a grand opposition coalition featuring the likes of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai—both seen as potential challengers to President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 race.
Reacting to the development, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the new formation as a failed attempt in the making, insisting that any coalition against President Tinubu in 2027 would crash before take-off.
