CHIEF Olusegun Obasanjo, the erstwhile President of Nigeria has said that his decision to relieve 93 top military officers on his assumption of office in 1999 has gone a long way in  saving  as well as stabilizing  the nation’s democracy.

Obasanjo, who described the move as a kind of engineering in politics, disclosed that the mass retirement was inevitable on account of the  opulent life style of some  top military men in the corridor of power.

According to the information scooped from Daily Post, he revealed this at his 80th birthdays celebration organized by the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in Abuja at the weekend.

Similarly, the ex- president warned people from referring to him again as Matthew, a name he claimed he dropped a long time ago.
