At least 11 people sustained varying degrees of injuries following a series of accidents along the Interchange section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday morning.

The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi. The accident reportedly occurred around 7:30 a.m.

According to the statement, the crash began when a Mazda bus collided with a Mack truck attempting to manoeuvre into the premises of a private company along the busy route. The situation escalated when a Toyota Hiace bus trailing behind lost control and rammed into the already involved vehicles.

Akinbiyi explained, “The driver of the Mack truck was trying to enter the Cway company when the Mazda bus, due to impatience and excessive speed, crashed into it. This impact also caused a Toyota Hiace bus behind to lose control upon sighting the accident ahead, leading to further collision.”

A total of 21 people were involved in the crash—12 adult males and nine adult females. Eleven of them, comprising eight males and three females, sustained injuries.

The vehicles involved were identified as a Mazda bus with registration number SMK 554 YH, a Mack truck with plate number FNN 934 XA, and a Toyota Hiace bus bearing plate number KJA 995 XA.

The injured victims were promptly attended to by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and subsequently transported to Idera Hospital in Shagamu for medical treatment.

TRACE has reiterated the importance of road safety, cautioning drivers against excessive speeding and impatience, especially on busy highways.
