A chieftain of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Alhaji Bisi Olopoeyan, has disclosed that he may support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Oyo South Senatorial District, Engr. Aderemi Oseni, against his party’s candidate, Hon. Stanley Adedeji Olajide Odidiomo, in the 2027 election.
Olopoeyan hinged his position on his longstanding personal relationship with Oseni, saying the relationship existed long before he met Odidiomo.
The APM chieftain spoke in Yoruba during an interview with Peter Olasupo, popularly known as Captain P2, at his residence.
According to him, Oseni had remained in touch with him over the years, regularly visiting him and identifying with him during important personal occasions.
“Mo ti mo Remi Oseni ki Odidiomo to mo mi,” he said.
Translated, the statement means: “I have known Remi Oseni before Odidiomo. He attends my personal events. So, I know him very well.”
Olopoeyan said his possible support for Oseni was therefore rooted in a relationship that had continued beyond political calculations.
“I may support Remi Oseni against Odidiomo,” he stated.
He said his relationship with Odidiomo was different, alleging that the APM senatorial candidate had neither visited nor maintained meaningful contact with him since emerging as the party’s candidate for Oyo South.
Olopoeyan added that the relationship between them had not been particularly strong even before Odidiomo’s emergence as the senatorial candidate.
The APM chieftain, however, made it clear that his position on the Oyo South contest should not be interpreted as a rejection of the party or a fallout with its other candidates.
He described the APM governorship candidate, Bimbo Adekanmbi, as his brother, saying they had a cordial relationship and that he had no personal problem with him.
Olopoeyan also spoke warmly about the party’s Oyo Central Senatorial District candidate, Ajadi, describing him as a good man who had been consulting stakeholders and reaching out to people at the grassroots.
“He has been moving around and consulting with people. He does not sideline anybody,” he said, wishing the candidate well.
Rejecting suggestions that he was an aggrieved member of the APM, Olopoeyan insisted that he remained firmly rooted in the party.
“I am not an aggrieved person in the party. The structure is with me, not Governor Makinde,” he declared.
