Speaking at the foundation laying ceremony on Monday, the Rector of the institution, Prof. Kazeem Adebiyi, described the project as one which marks a new dawn for all staff, adding that it would solve the office accommodation problem  in the institution.

The office complex, named after Governor Seyi Makinde, according to the Rector, is part of the requirements for accreditation, adding that “for accreditation you need to have adequate offices for members of staff, that’s why we conceive the vision to have this project.”

“The project that we are turning the sod today is titled  Engr. Seyi Makinde Academic Office Complex . The project has provision for standard  72 offices for chief lecturer status of academic staff. The project  is one of the provisions by the institution to solve the problem of offices for the lecturers and this is part of requirements for accreditation, because for accreditation you need to have adequate offices for members of staff.

“When the idea was conceived, we approach the government and the government of Engr. Seyi Makinde supported our vision and provided adequate support for us in terms of funding the project”, he said.

The brief ceremony, which was held beside the Faculty of Environmental Studies signaled the commencement of work with 36 weeks  as expected completion period.

“The projected cost of the project for now is about N458 million. It is a big project. Based on the contractor, the completion period is 36 weeks, that’s about 9 months”, Adebiyi explained.

While commending the state government for supporting the vision, the Rector, however, assured of the institution’s readiness to carefully monitor the contractor to ensuring due compliance with contract specification and in record time.

Also commenting, the Governing Council Chairman of the institution, Prof. Kunle Akinyemi, who identified office accommodation as one of the major problems of the institution, described the project as one of the council’s remarkable achievements.

Akinyemi declared that the welfare of staff would be the council’s top priority, noting that the project would go a long way, in motivating and driving development process in the institution.

“This star – studded governing council – this is one of the remarkable achievements for us. Taking care of staff and their office accommodation is also very important and symbolic. How can staff be managing and squatting with one another. With the provision of this kind of office complex, staff would be free to man their affairs in their offices “, he said.

The scholar, thereafter, urged government at all levels to allocate reasonable per cent of the budget to education, in order to increase the pace of development in the country.

“Because if more money is allocated they will be able to provide the resources for learning and the environment for learning will be conducive for students to learn and develop to the best potential”, Professor Akinyemi submitted.

Earlier in his remarks, the state’s commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barr. Abiodun Abdul-Rahman lauded the governor for identifying with the institution, stressing that the initiative will not only add values to the citadel of learning, but also targeted at providing  succor to its staff.

The commissioner, represented by the Deputy Director, Higher Education, Mrs.  Adeola Ademuyiwa , noted that the multimillionaire project was the beginning of greater things in the institution.

The sympathizers, including community leaders,  family and friends expressed great shock at the news of the death of Alhaja Risikat Agbogun.

The acting Rector, Mr. Olaniyi Adekunle and others described Alhaja Risikat as a loving wife,  mother and good pillar of support to her husband, Alhaji Sarafa Agbogun.

He  noted that the vacuum created by her death would be difficult to fill.

They prayed the Almighty  Allah to grant her Aljana Fridous, while praying God to grant her husband, Alhaji Sarafa Agbogun, the children as  well as the family and friends, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Meanwhile, the Chairman Governing Council, Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, (OYSCATECH ), Igboora,  Prof.  Lateef Sanni and members have commiserated with  Alhaji Sarafa Agbogun,  the institution’s Bursar over the painful passage of his wife, Alhaja Risikat Agbogun.

Prof. Sanni described her death as a monumental loss.

He prayed the Almighty Allah to comfort the entire family and grant the deceased,  Aljana Fridous.

Until her death,  Alhaja Risikat Agbogun was a business tycoon who specialized in the sale of  clothes and fabrics.

She will be buried by 4.00pm, this evening; according to Islamic rites.

According to a statement signed by the institution’s Registrar/Secretary to the Council, Fawale M.T and made available to Mega Icon Magazine, the lecturer was shown the way out of the citadel of learning for his involvement in act of misconduct which resulted in “embarrassing and tarnishing the image” of The Polytechnic, Ibadan , his employer.

The letter of termination dated 15th September, 2020 , signed by Fawale M.T, the Registrar read, “You will recall that you were engaged in an inappropriate behavior and a poorly managed relationship with your former student. These resulted in embarrassing and tarnishing the image of your employer, The Polytechnic, Ibadan.

“You will also recall your responses and appearances before the investigation panel and senior staff disciplinary committee that looked into the above matters. After a careful consideration of the issues above, the Governing Council found you guilty as your actions and activities amount to misconduct.

“The Governing Council, therefore approved the immediate termination on your appointment with effect from Friday , 11th September,2020. “You are to handover all properties of the institution in your possession to your Head of Department”, the letter concluded.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, May 7th and signed by the institution’s Registrar, Mrs Modupe Theresa Fawale, the management observed that a town and gown meeting held on Monday, 6th May, at the North campus Assembly hall with parents, guardians, communities surrounding the institution as well as traditional rulers, religious leaders and landlord associations yielded positive results which culminated in the decision to re-open the institution forthwith.

Also, the statement added that the stakeholders at the meeting discussed with management among other matters all forms of indiscipline exhibited by the students,  charging the management to clip the wings of any student found to be engaged in any act of indiscipline “and should not hesitate to hand over such student to the law enforcement agents if necessary”.

In a related development, each student on resumption is expected to pay a reparation fee of N2000 for the enormous damages of the institution’s facilities.

“The students will also among other things swear to an affidavit to be of good conduct while those residing in neighboring communities would sign a bond with their landlords to be of good conduct and worthy ambassador of the institution.

“Each student is also to write an undertaking to be of utmost good conduct.

“The landlords in the neighboring communities as well as parents and traditional rulers agreed to be ears and eyes of the institution by feeding the management with information to track erring students and bringing them to book”, the statement reads.

The governor also approved the appointments of other principals officers of the institution.

According to a statement in Ibadan on Monday by the State Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr. Toye Arulogun, other appointments approved by Governor Ajimobi are Mrs. Modupe Theresa Fawole as the Registrar, Mr. Olawale Adebayo Ojesola as the Bursar, Dr. Samuel Folaranmi Ajala as the Chief Librarian while Engr. Stephen Folorunsho Ipadeola as the Director of Works and Services.

Arulogun explained that the appointments became imperative following the expiration of the tenure of the erstwhile Management Staff of the institution on February 13, 2019, noting that interviews were conducted by the institution’s Governing Council and the selection process moderated by some external faculties.

He said that the appointments take immediate effect, stating that the government looks forward to their hardwork, diligence and professionalism in realizing its mission for the institution.

The government spokesman said that the new Rector, Professor Adebiyi, who is 50years old and an alumnus of the institution, holds an Ordinary National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from The Polytechnic Ibadan, B. Mechanical Engineering, M. Sc Industrial Engineering and Ph.D Industrial Engineering, noting that Professor Adebiyi is a member of COREN and Nigerian Association of Engineers and Nigerian Society of Engineers.

Arulogun stated that the new Registrar, Mrs. Fawale, aged 56, was until her appointment a Deputy Registrar in the Institution, stressing that she holds the degree of B. Ed Teacher Education and Religious Studies, M. Ed Guardian and Counselling, a member of Nigerian Institute of management and Association of University Adminstrators.

The Commissioner added that the new  Bursar, Mr. Ojetola, aged 51, holds the degrees of B.Sc (Accounting), MBA, a fellowship Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria as well as a Certified Information System Auditors and was a Deputy Director, Audit, at the Oyo State College of Agriculture, Igbo-Ora before his appointment.

Arulogun stressed that the Chief Librarian, Dr. Ajala, aged 60, was until his appointment the deputy Librarian in the institution while the Director of of Works and Services, Engr. Ipadeola, aged 52, was until his appointment the Chief Engineer at the Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo.
