According to the bulletin, the importance of biometrics in the conduct of the board’s examination cannot be overemphasised.

It noted that the Biometrics Verification Machine (BVM) was introduced by the board in an attempt to get rid of the numerous forms of examination malpractice.

It said the BVM was a security mechanism used for the authentication of candidates’ identity as it provided access to the individual data, based on physiological characteristics.

“The core value of a biometric verification process lies in its ability to provide extra layers of security and protection against counterfeiting and impersonation.

“The increasing threat of identity fraud during the board’s UTME before the advent of the BVM necessitated its introduction for capturing biometrics of candidates to counter fraud.

“The candidate’s 10 fingers are captured during registration and are used as clearance to admit them into the examination hall.

“There are various types of biometric solutions but JAMB opted for fingerprint recognition, to eliminate all forms of infractions.

“Biometric security is surely a breakthrough for the board because the fingerprints recognition technology provides a greater degree of security as it is impossible to steal, forget, lose or compromise data already captured.

“Therefore, the adoption of biometrics in the conduct of our examination is here to stay,” the bulletin read.

It reassured candidates that their fingerprints would not be used for any purpose other than identification.

According to the bulletin, the benefits of the BVM are immense and indispensable to the assessment process.

Zamfara police spokesperson, Muhammed Shehu, in a statement, confirmed that the attack occurred on Saturday at about 4 p.m.

He said more police officers have been deployed to the area, even as the Acting Governor of Zamfara State, Sanusi Rikiji; the police commissioner and other heads of security agencies were at the scene in the early hours of Sunday.

The officials were there “for on the spot assessment with a view to putting in more proactive security measures that will bring lasting solutions to the security challenges in the area and other parts of the state,” he said.

Rikiji also on Sunday attended the funeral prayer for some of the victims killed by the bandits.

Mr Rikiji, who is the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, condoled with the families of the victims and people of Maradun Emirate and described the incident as unfortunate and worrisome.

He said the state government was concerned about security matters.

“It is very disturbing, so distracting the way our people are being killed by terrorists.

“More often than not, we could not even concentrate and face our work, due to pressures of insecurity in our communities,” NAN quotes the acting governor as saying.

He urged security operatives in the state to maximise their efforts in tackling the challenges.

Rikiji noted that the state government had been providing all necessary support to security agencies in the state.

“We are ever ready to continue to offer any support to security agencies, at whatever cost, in order to address the current security situation in the state,” he added.

He urged people of the state to continue with prayers to seek Allah’s interventions to end the situation.

The acting governor also appealed to communities to provide information on security to security agencies for prompt response.

The heads of security agencies in the state were also in attendance during the prayers.

In their separate remarks, the Emir of Maradun, Garba Tambari, and Chairman Maradun Local Government Area, Yahaya Shehu, called for the deployment of more security personnel in the area.

Hundreds of people have been killed by armed bandits in Zamfara in 2018 despite the deployment of thousands of security personnel including soldiers as well as air force personnel and equipment to the state.

Reports circulated during the week of a meeting between Obasanjo, Osinbajo, and the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.

But in a statement signed by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Friday, the former President said the report was false.

“It is a fact that severally, the former president has dissociated himself from owning any social media account.

“Therefore, it is highly disappointing that such sensitive Twitter post would be allowed to go on air without verification by the African Independent Television (AIT),” the statement stated.

Obasanjo further urged the media to always be professional in discharging their duties and to refrain from creating unnecessary confusion and heating up the polity.

He added, “There was no meeting with the Vice President anywhere. I was at the airport and was informed that he was around in the lounge and out of courtesy; I felt I should go and greet him. We met, greeted and exchanged pleasantries and I left. That was all.

“The station should have been very professional and not causing confusion and heating up the polity. That I am not operating any social media account should not be strange to a station like AIT, and for that embarrassment, the Vice President and I deserve an apology,” Mr Obasanjo said.

Two separate videos had emerged online of the Governor allegedly collecting bribe from contractors in the state.

Following the emergence of the videos, the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, had claimed that Jafar Jafar, Publisher of Daily Nigerian, was working with Kwankwanso.

However, Kwankwaso insisted that there was nothing between the publisher and him.

Kwankwaso’s stance was contained in a statement by his spokesperson, Hajiya Binta Spikin.

The terse statement reads, “Everyone knows that Jafar Jafar is an independent journalist and his medium, Daily Nigerian, is also indepen-dent.

“There is no deal whatsoever between Jafar and Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso. So if they are suspecting anything, it is left for them to prove it.”

DAILY POST had reported that a police officer shot an ex-lawmaker and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Opeyemi Bamidele and a yet to be identified person as Fayemi began the rally for the July 14 governorship election in Ekiti State.

Reacting, Fayose writing on his Twitter page said the desperation of Fayemi to become governor of the state was responsible for the mayhem and bloodshed.

He, however, sympathized with victims of the shooting presently being treated at the state university hospital.

According to him, “Fayemi is having all these challenges because of his desperation. It is instructive that there was chaos at the APC primary election and his return to Ekiti today brought bloodshed to a once peaceful Ekiti State.

Daily Post reports that a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory headed by Justice Adebukola Banjoko yesterday found Nyame guilty of corruption.

Reacting, Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, said Nyame’s sentencing had shown that APC was not a place for criminals.

She commended Justice Adebukola Banjoko for withstanding all forms of pressure and inducements from corrupt lawyers and godfathers, adding that it was a victory for all law abiding citizens of the nation.

Fayemi polled 941 votes to beat Oni, who polled 481 votes .

Kayode Ojo scored 245 votes; Femi Bamisile, 171 votes; Oluyede Oluwole 110 votes.

Oni has vowed not to leave APC because of his loss and promised to give Fayemi his support to win the governorship election.

“I am a party person, I will not only support him (Mr Fayemi), I will encourage him. I don’t have any intention of leaving the APC,” Oni said.

The Ekiti governorship election will hold July 14.

This happened at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi, the Bauchi state capital, where the President, who is on a two-day official visit to the state, addressed a mammoth crowd.

Recall that the President had about a fortnight ago before departing to London ahead of 2018 CHOGM told the National Executive Committee members of his party – the APC – that he would be seeking re-election in 2019.

The President’s declaration was announced by Governors Simon Lalong, Nasir El-Rufai and a presidential aide.

Confirming his decision to seek re-election, Buhari told the Bauchi crowd, “When I came into power as a military Head of State during the military era, there was nothing like insurgency in the North East, although I re-contested several times during the democratic era and lost. I contested again in 2015 and God in his infinite mercy, gave me victory.

“I have already made my intentions known to Nigerians that I will still contest again in 2019 and I’m happy for the support you are already giving to me today,’’ the President told the people.

He said further, “I contested election for the first time, second and third times, but lost. I said good and contested election again for the fourth time and won. I am telling you, I am going to contest election again for the seat of president and I will win because I have never been found wanting.

“I served as a president, governor and chairman of Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF), but never looted the treasury like Nigerian past leaders, who own 20 to 30 houses, while some Nigerians cannot afford one room to sleep in.”
