It is quite unfortunate that many schools in Oyo State are in deplorable and degradable state, including my alma mater. Government Secondary School, Orita-Aperin, Ibadan was one of the model schools constructed during the administration of Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.

The school located at Adesola area of Orita-Aperin, Ibadan shares similar structure with TL Oyesina Model Secondary School, Monatan, Ibadan.

Over the past, Government Secondary School, Orita-Aperin, (GSS) has been the delight of many, but today, it has turned to a laughing stock in the midst of other model schools. Today, GSS lacks nearly everything it needs to stand as a model school.

During our time in the school, there were students who came from very far areas like; Moniya, Ayegun Oleyo, and Elebu to the school, but today, you will hardly find such things, because the attractive things in the school are no more.

People don’t only choose schools because of the kind of education services the school renders. They also put some other things like; building and structure, staff strength, and security into consideration. GSS had nearly all of these then, but today, it is no gainsaying that it lacks many of the necessary things it used to have in the past and ought to maintain till now.

It is always heartbreaking for me to see students of my beloved alma mater sitting on floors, stones, and similar uncomfortable things during lessons. Many classes are in deficit of chairs, windows, and doors. The school library, halls, and some staff rooms are not even spared from deplorable outlook. The attractive school is gradually trending down the path of collapse.

Some people may ask, “what are the old students doing?” But take note that the school is not yet ripe for comparison with the likes of Government College Ibadan and Lagelu Grammar School. Only four sets of people have been produced by the school; those learning in higher institutions of learning, those praying for admission into higher institutions, those trying to have strong feet in the society, and those learning skills.

I, hereby, call on the State Government, philanthropists, Non-governmental organizations (NGO) and privileged individuals to kindly come to the aid of the school, assess the level of damages, and help in remodeling, refurbishing and renovating the school.

Thank you and God bless you! Save the model school!

It is no news that the horse race to Agodi Government House in Oyo State has come and gone, electorates have decided, while every political gladiators are nursing their wounds.

Today, Governor Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde (GSM) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is the landlord of the Agodi Government House for the next three (3) years, and his party members, presently control the Oyo State House Of Assembly with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Action Democratic Party, (ADP) forming the opposition.

Interestingly, the residents of the state in their numbers were busy accessing the performance of Governor Seyi Makinde in the last 12 months based on the pyramid of success ladder, while some were still in euphoria rejoicing at cooling spots to celebrate his victory.

With the help of the coalition arrangement midwived by a former governor of the state, Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the beneficiary of the arrangement, Engr. Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) polled 515, 621 votes to defeat his closest rival, Oloye Adebayo Adelabu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who secured 357,982 votes.

Meanwhile, the three governorship candidates that sacrificed their ambitions for Govrrnor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are Senator Olufemi Lanlehin of Action Democratic Congress (ADC), Barrister Sharafadeen Alli of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) and Chief Bolaji Ayorinde of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) . These political gladiators in the state aimed at forming a government of national unity; unfortunately, the agreement was breached and the coalition went sour.

With this revelation, did Adebayo Adelabu feels that he had failed? The answer is NO, according to political pundits. As a new entrant into politics, his performance at the poll was commendable and it beams ray of hope of a better political future ;if some measures are put in place.

Our investigations revealed that the progressive party in Oyo state, even when the late governor and the leader of the progressives, Alhaji Onaolapo Lamidi Adesina led the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011, the party’s guber nominee, late Sen. Abiola Ajimobi defeated the then incumbent governor, Otunba Alao Akala of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by securing 420, 852 against 387, 132.

In a related development, in 2015, late Abiola Ajimobi became the ‘Koseleri of Oyo state’ under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by breaking the second term jinx. He polled 327,310, to defeat his brother, former governor Ladoja of the Accord Party scored 254,520 and others.

Considering these figures, it is obvious that Oloye Adebayo Adelabu performed extremely well in the last election, a feat he achieved through members of the progressives in the state who supported his ambition. This political calculation and permutation signify that the Obafemi Awolowo University trained accountant appeared to have an edge, but needs to improve on his relationship skills as a prominent political figure in the state.

According to the pundits, Adelabu must work on the politics of the ‘Gate Keepers ‘ and that of the Critical Success Factor’ (CSF) to accomplish his political ambition.

Oyo state housed Muslims, Christians and traditional worshipers, thus the need for proper religious identity in regards of governorship election.

People believed that Oloye Bayo Adelabu was a converted Christian, until the ‘sudden’ addition of ‘Abdulwaheed’ to his name.

The Muslims in the state observed that being a Muslim transcends mere name bearing. They insisted the community would be more pleased if Adelabu can take further practical steps to prove that he is really a Muslim.

No doubt, Adelabu is stylish, intelligent, strategic and has brilliant ideas toward Oyo state development, but needs to intensify efforts on these grey areas. By 2023, it is predicted that the party’s primary would be an interesting one as political juggernauts in the state surreptitiously expressed interests.

However, only time will tell.

Former governor of Oyo state, Chief Rashidi Ladoja has advised the Seyi Makinde – led government in the state to always cross check facts before deriding his predecessors in office.

The Ibadan high chief who midwifed the coalition that birthed the current government in the state in a statement issued his media aide, Alhaji Lanre Latinwo and made available to newsmen in Ibadan frowned at the recent statement credited to the state government that no administration after 1995 bought a water drilling rig for the State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA) except the present administration.

Chief Ladoja was the state gaffer between 2003-2007.

The former governor’s aide revealed that during Senator Ladoja’s administration, two rigs were donated by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), a Japanese donor Agency.

“The rigs were launched at Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government by the then Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

“The whole idea was to use same to eradicate guinea worm that was an epidemic in Ibarapa and some parts of Oke Ogun and Ogbomosho zones of the State then.

“RUWASSA formerly Water and Sanitation Agency (WATSAN) was an agency under the Governor’s office with a Project Director under the supervision of the then Secretary to the State Government (SSG), who was later Chief of Staff to Senator Ladoja, worked assiduously to make the government and people of the State proud with timeous eradication of the epidemic.

“The epidemic was eradicated in a little over a year with awards and recognition from/by Federal Government of Nigeria, Jimmy Carter Foundation and several other international agencies,” Latinwo said.

Latinwo continued, “It need be noted that the rig donated by JICA could drill up to 300 metres and was about the best in the West Africa sub-region at that time.

“When that is compared to the one for which approval was given, the latter can conveniently be referred to as a “toy rig”.

“If the administration could use it’s goodwill to get such a gift of two (2) complete drilling machines, why can’t your administration do same than to deride previous governments,” he asked rhetorically.

“If the rigs were not put to good use, why the awards and recognitions?

“It is those rigs that are still being used by Oyo State till recently when, as claimed by Hon. Najeem Omirinde, current chairman of the agency now Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA), approval was obtained to buy another one.

“And now that the new ones were being proposed by the government, why must you castigate others for not buying rigs especially when you can use expertise, experience and connections to get rigs.

“Why buying another one, when money meant for that could be put to some other use.

“Whatsmore, when a need arose then, Air Compressor was bought by prudent (as known by people of the state) Ladoja administration”.

The PDP leader, however advised that the Governor should always make wide consultations and avoid pitfalls that could make opposition elements to continually “accuse him of running an audio government laced with innundoes on the pages of newspapers.”

Featuring on Fresh FM Ibadan political circuit programme, monitored by Mega Icon Magazine on Saturday, the ex-Council gaffer of Ido Local Government said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deliberately refused to participate in the local government election, just as he disclosed that it was the government of Governor Seyi Makinde that went to appeal the existing court ruling that the Governor, House of Assembly cannot discharge the mandate given to the elected Local Government Chairmen.

Governor Makinde should allow Appeal Court to determine the matter. If you had gone to court, the onus is on you for the court to announce a position and is not your own business to say this is how court will rule . The court is not based on sentiments, but to interpret laws.

“The imposition of Caretaker Chairmen cannot work because there is a Supreme Court ruling on the issue of local government now and it said that no Governor or State Assembly can remove any elected Council Chairman, you just want to create a political imbroglio. If your party refused to participate in an election doesn’t make that election invalid. Ab initio, the PDP actually went to court that the local government election should not hold, but the court ruled over . Cases that were in court are all vacated as at today.

“Why would Seyi Makinde, as an incumbent governor deliberately precipitate crisis, thinking that if you have crisis you can do whatever you like. If you deliberately precipitate crisis you cannot benefit from that crisis because you don’t have the power to remove elected Chairmen. If you commit illegality, it is also illegal to be law abiding, you don’t expect the other party to fold their arms, they will fight it out with the rule of law. Allow the Appeal Court you have gone to, to make a pronouncement. When the court rules, whatever you’re doing will be the product of law and not the product of naked power. We should run away from ‘Jankara Politics’ “, he advised.

Reacting to what he described as illegal dissolution of the Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC), Olowofela quoted the Supreme Court decision recently held in Oni & Ors V Governor of Ekiti State & Anor (2019) 5NWLR Part 1664,Pg 1-27 that:

“The tenure of the Governor of a State under the 1999 constitution, as well as that of the legislature is 4 years. However, the constitution grants members of a state independent electoral commission a tenure of 5 years. It ought not to escape attention that the deliberate purpose of the constitution is to create an electoral commission, the lifespan of which exceeds those of both the Governor and the state legislature. This is done with the view to create continuity and stability in the electoral process and governance. The same is done in relation to the State Civil service commission, and the State Judicial Service Commission. It is not the intendment of the constitution that the membership of the commissions should change with the fortunes of the political parties in a state.

“This remains the law of our land according to the Supreme court. It means the proclaimed dissolution of Commissions, including OYSIEC, CSC, JSC,etc, cannot stand”.

Continuing, he recalled that: “during former Governor Ladoja’s era, Ladoja had OYSIEC, when Governor Akala came on board , Akala disband the OYSIEC and when Ladoja returned, he also disband the OYSIEC again created by Akala. This is not respecting the rule of law and led to a lot of court litigations. That was what hindered Governor Ajimobi from conducting Local Government Election on a timely basis.

“We had to wait for the series of court cases to be vacated, but it got to a point where by we had to call all the fielding parties, both the OYSIEC of Akala, OYSIEC of Ladoja and they had to withdraw the case from court when we negotiated with them. They did that one before Ajimobi could now constitute new OYSIEC in 2016. Don’t forget that the OYSIEC has a lifespan of five years , so 2016 plus 5 years will give us 2021which will still be in the lifespan of this present government.

“If you have the prerogative to appoint, that is law, but it is tenure based. When something is tenure based, then you must allow them to expend the tenure that has been given to them. OYSIEC has five years, in fact court has also ruled over this matter. The court did not say go and give them their money but for the status quo to remain. If you ‘dash them money’, that’s your headache. They have their own tenure which is five years and they will spend their tenure. It is even wrong of Governor Seyi Makinde to spend public money anyhow. Anyhow in the sense that, if you have not done any service, why would you be paid?

“The court has ruled over this matter that the OYSIEC has five years tenure to use. That the government is dissolving the OYSIEC won’t hold water. Law didn’t permit arbitrariness, the fact that you have power to hire a Commission doesn’t mean that you can fire that commission, because it is a tenure matter, the tenure must run, that’s the law. This is different from hiring a messenger for a particular job , so you must look critically before you hire, because once you hire, you must allow tenure to lapse. A pronouncement that is coming from the mouth is just a word if it doesn’t have the force and backing of the law”, the APC chieftain concluded.

Barely four weeks after the present occupant of the Agodi Government House, Engr. Seyi Makinde was sworn in as the Governor of Oyo state, a result of the coalition effort coordinated by former Governor Rasidi Ladoja, the gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator Olufemi Lanlehin has withdrawn from the coalition he and his party had with the governor.

The ex- lawmaker, Lanlehin and other governorship nominees of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, Barr Sharafadeen Alli and Chief Bolaji Ayorinde of the Social Democratic Party, SDP had formed an alliance against the then ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The parties adopted Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party, ( PDP) as their candidate against the former CBN deputy governor, Operations Chief Adebayo Adelabu of the APC.

Also, there was a ‘sharing formula’ before the alliance’s agreement was sealed.

However, Lanlehin on Tuesday in a statement issued by his media office, declared that he was opting out because of Makinde’s non compliance with the spirit and letters of the terms of the gubernatorial pre-election agreement reached.
He,explained that his party, the ADC, is at liberty to remain in the coalition, and believes it should, in fact, remain.

Senator Olufemi Lanlehin (Solan), Oyo State Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) hereby announces forthwith, his personal withdrawal from the coalition he has with Engr. Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State governor;
Recall that Senator Lanlehin, former Oyo State gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) joined forces with other opposition parties’ governorship candidates to back Makinde, and the gubernatorial victory was thereupon resounding;

Lanlehin, who hinged his decision to quit the coalition on what he termed Governor Makinde’s non compliance with the spirit and letters of the terms of the gubernatorial pre-election agreement reached, however maintains that his party, the ADC is at liberty to remain in the coalition, and believes it should, in fact, remain;

Lanlehin, going forward, states that while he remains a committed member of the ADC, he would adopt a “siddon look” posture in the governance of Oyo State and allied matters;
Thank you.

According to the press statement which was signed by its Chairman, Alhaji Karimu Iyiola and made available to journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo state, the group berated the two supposed elder statesmen, who though, recently joined the party has perfected plans to usurp the machinery of the party without following due democratic tenets.

Alhaji Karimu alleged that Senator Ladoja who not too long ago left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because he was not allowed to have his way, has concluded plans to impose his stalwarts as the state executives of the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC). The Frontline Solidarity Movement (FSM) also added that Senator Ladoja working in tandem with Chief Koleosho, a former Secretary to the Oyo state government, who himself has lost political relevance in the Oke Ogun region where he is from, to impose their will on the people, particularly against the members of the Unity Forum.

He further observed that a situation where a few people will sit down in the corner of a room in the name of elders, to impose their will on majority will not be tolerated in the Africa Democratic Congress, (ADC)

“If they intend to install their stogies as the executives of the party following lay down procedures, there will be nothing to complain about, but to attempt to impose party executives on the rest of us who are obviously in the majority, will be met with vehement resistance by the frontline Solidarity Movement (FSM)”, Karimu warned.

The group also promised to explore all necessary means within the law to ensure that Senator Rashidi Ladoja and Chief Michael Koleosho does not impose their ‘Yesmen’ on the party.

Alhaji Karimu, however called on the national Chairman of the party, Okey Nwosu and other leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) not to allow the culture of impunity, imposition and godfatherism which this supposed leaders have exhibited in the past and has achieved for them little or no result to hold sway in ADC.

The group said it is unfortunate, that Senator Rashidi Ladoja and Chief Michael Koleosho who should be exemplary in their political conducts, continue to work against the dictates of simple democratic principles.

2019: President Buhari grants Shittu’s leave to contest Oyo guber

He added, “Senator Ladoja and Chief Koleosho should be advised not to have an exaggerated impression of their electoral worth, as it is obvious that they are living in past glory”. The group Chairman assured that the Oyo state ADC will win the coming elections with or without the likes of Senator Ladoja and Koleosho.

The group also commended some of the leaders of the party who strongly opposed the attempt of Senator Ladoja and Chief Michael Koleosho, by ensuring that the proposed state Congress where they intended to foist their undemocratic decision on the party, was postponed.

A source close to Ladoja hinted that the meetings were not unconnected with the permultation of the major opposition parties in the southwest ahead of the 2019 general elections.

At the meeting, in Ladoja’s team were the former secretary to the Oyo state government, Barr. Sharafadeen Alli, Senator Femi Lanleyin, PDP leaders in Oyo State, Prince Yemi Aderibigbe, Barrister Bayo Lawal, Dr. Nureni Adeniran, Engineer Nureni Adisa, Arch Bashiru Lawal and Hon. Bimbo Adepoju.

Former Osun State Governor, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola who arrived at Ladoja’s house around 9:am on Monday also told journalists that the meeting was not political.

His words, “I am here to visit my brother.”

Also, after the meeting, Mimiko who recently defected back to Labour Party, (LP) also declined comment, but later said: “this is a private visit, please.

Mega Icon Magazine checks revealed that the two former governors visited Ladoja to woo him into their parties as a result of the seven days ultimatum given to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by the Ladoja’s group, following the crisis in the state chapter of the party.

” We have not decided now. We are going to meet with our leader, Ladoja to decide our next move but we may have a merger at the end of the day,” the source affirmed.

He noted that after the meetings, the former governor and his team would need to review the visits before announcing their next move.

Ladoja recently issued a seven-day ultimatum to the NWC of the PDP over some unsettled crisis rocking the state chapter of the party.

The APC faction otherwise known as ‘Unity Forum’ in the other hand, after a face-off with the governor of the state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi threatened to quit the party, if the NWC refuses to address the crisis.

CONTRARY to insinuations renting the airwaves, former governor of Oyo State, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala has reaffirmed his commitment to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC as he declared publicly that he remained in the party.

Speaking on Saturday at the empowerment programme and town hall meeting organised by Hon. Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji, member, Oyo State House of Assembly representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency held at Masifa DC Primary School, Orita Naira, Ogbomoso, Alao-Akala disclosed that the people of Ogbomoso always align with the ruling party at the Federal level, hence the need for his commitment to the APC both at the state and the federal levels.

It would be recalled that recently the Governor of Oyo state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi brokered a masterstroke of unity, with the ex – governor, Akala, and another political bigwig in the state, Senator Teslim Folarin in London with a view to strengthening the APC ahead of 2019 elections.

Arriving from his United Kingdom trip, former Governor Rashidi Ladoja also held a meeting with Akala, his former deputy allaying fears that he does not nurse any pique with him.

Efforts to lure the Ogbomoso-born politician back to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, which he dumped for the Labour Party, LP, in the build-up to the 2015 governorship election in Oyo State, proved abortive as he reechoed that he was not leaving the ruling party.

According to Governor Akala who wore a cap with a bold inscription and distinctive logo of the APC maintained, “for the avoidance of doubt, I just want the people to know that I am in APC. I don’t want to say anything about the merits and demerits of APC, but I can’t leave the APC for PDP. People schemed to get me back to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but the people of Ogbomoso will like me to be in the APC, I cannot leave my people for another party and that’s final, this is my base, politics is local”.

When asked about his 2019 ambition, the ex- governor said, “everything is in God’s hand, so don’t let us talk about 2019 while we are still trying to put ourselves together, it is too early. Any politician that is seeking for political post now is not a politician.

He continued, “I have told all my followers and everybody in Ogbomoso that we remain in APC.

On the contrary, while reacting to the public declaration of his boss, the Minority leader, Hon Olagunju Ojo who is also a member of the Labour Party said “for now, I am still in Labour Party, LP but anytime, anything can happen”.

Also, speaking with Mega Icon Magazine at the event, Hon Olusegun Olaleye popularly known as ‘Radical brother’ representing Ibadan North II State Constituency described the PDP alliance as dead on arrival, emphasising that the pact will fail.

“The strength of any car is the engine and Akala remains the engine of the Labour party. I told them that Akala is not part of the alliance and Akala has vindicated me today, this is a good news for the APC and Oyo State”, Olaleye reiterated.
