The stakeholders of All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Oyo state have come up with a unanimous decision to work together and ensure peace, fairness and adherence to the laid down guidelines in the conduct of the forthcoming Congresses of the party across the state.

This resolve formed the conclusion reached at the stakeholders meeting of the party held today at Lafia Hotel, Ibadan in a preparation for the nationwide Congresses of the APC starting on July 24, 2021 with the Ward Congress.

Contained in a statement by Olawale Sadare, the Personal Assistant (Media) to the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, Oyo APC stakeholders would not leave any stone unturned to ensure total adherence to the guidelines released from the national secretariat of the party in the conduct of the Congresses “as only this would be solidify the confidence of all party faithful and also pave the way for post-congress unity and harmony as desired.

The state chairman set the tone for the harmonization of positions from all the stakeholders who attended the meeting as he said in his opening remarks that the leadership of the party would not give room for any undemocratic conduct from any quarters before, during and after the Congresses. He also assured party members to remain focused and accommodate one another without any recourse to what had happened in the past.

“We are fascinated by the turn out of critical stakeholders and the calibre of party stalwarts in this all-important meeting which was organized to enable us forge a common front ahead of the forthcoming Congresses of our great Party. I am therefore using this opportunity to assure all party faithful of transparency and fairness in the conduct of the Congresses which we intend to use as a threshold for us to reclaim power in 2023. Now is the time for everyone to go to their Wards and sort things out democratically and harmoniously.” Oke stated.

Also commenting, a former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, sued for peace and understanding among gladiators and their supporters as he observed that unity, trust and hardwork were required from all to strengthen Oyo APC.

“The good people of the state are expecting much from us in APC as they can’t wait to have us in power again following the many disappointments they have got in the hands of the present PDP administration.

“Therefore, all hands must be on deck to justify the confidence reposed in us. All we are asking all leaders, chieftains and members to do is to cooperate among themselves and fashion out acceptable modalities with which we could achieve the desired success at the end of the day. As you have had from Chief Oke, let’s us all go to our individual Wards and participate in the exercise as mature minds and democrats which we are”, he added.

Other speakers at the meeting include former Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, Chief Kazeem Raji and Hon. Isiaka Kazeem spoke in support of the motion moved by the party chairman as they agreed on allowing stakeholders in each of the 351 Wards across the state to sort out things in relation to the planned July 24 Congresses at the Ward level. It then became a consensus opinion which attendees accepted and ratified for the planned exercise.

Stakeholders at the meeting include; the Honourable Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Chief Sunday Dare, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, Chief Moses Alake-Adeyemo, Sen AbdulFatai Buhari, Sen. Ayoade Adeseun, Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin, Sen. Adesoji Akanbi, Chief Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, Prof. Soji Adejumo, Alh. Olalekan Alli, Hon. Segun Odebunmi, Hon.

A new chapter was opened in the history book of the Oyo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday as virtually all gladiators attended its stakeholders meeting help in readiness for the commencement of the party’s membership registration and revalidation exercise.

The impressive turn out of those described as critical stakeholders at the meeting which took place at the Party’s new State Secretariat at Oke-Ado, Ibadan may have finally put an end to the intraparty bickering which Oyo APC has had to battle with since 2018.

In his Welcome Address, the State Caretaker Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, did not mince words in expressing his delight over “the collective resolve of all leaders, chieftains and members of the Oyo APC to work together as one and thus reposition the party for the task of winning future elections in the state.

“Although the main objective of today’s meeting is to deliberate on how to mobilize for the success of the party’s membership registration and revalidation exercise, we must express our happiness and joy on account of the attendance of this meeting by all the critical stakeholders including our leaders who were aggrieved at one time or the other. It is a new dawn and we salute your courage for putting behind all issues of grievances to channel a new cause for the good of our dear party and the nation as a whole.” Oke said.

In his own speech, former Governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, appealed for greater commitment and synergy among all stakeholders with a view to making the party stronger. “We must swing into action immediately as we have no luxury of time ahead of the next general election in which we would do everything humanly possible to reclaim power in Oyo state.

“As much as we are ready to mobilize for the success of the party’s membership registration and revalidation exercise, we also need to take a step further by setting appropriate modalities in place for Oyo APC faithful to work together as a family and dislodge the PDP from power.” Alao-Akala submitted.

While addressing the meeting, the minister of Sport and Youth Development, Mr. Sunday Dare, eulogized the Akin Oke-led state executive committee for organizing the meeting which he described as “very important at this critical time when all hands must be put on deck to save the state from the PDP whose conduct in government, so far, leaves much to be desired”.

Other speakers at the meeting include; the lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial district, Sen. Teslim Folarin, former minister of Communications, Barr. Adebayo Shittu, Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin, former deputy-governor, Chief Moses Alake-Adeyemo, Sen. Ayoade Adeseun, former Secretary to the State Government, Alh. Olalekan Alli, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Shadipe (Oluyole Federal Constituency) and the Minority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape.

Resolution made at the meeting are as follows; that Oyo APC shall be democratic in all its political activities as this concerns entrenchment of internal democracy particularly in the area Party Congresses and elective positions.

Second, that Oyo APC is now an indivisible family poised to win all future elections in the state. Third, the Stakeholders also resolved to work together with the National Secretariat for the overall success of the Membership Registration and Revalidation exercise.
And finally, that the Stakeholders have placed a total ban on the inimical activities of divisive groups such as Lamists, SENACO, PDP Reform and Unity Forum within Oyo APC.

Other APC dignitaries who attended the meeting include; Prof. Adeolu Akande, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, Alh. Fatai Ibikunle, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, Hon. Olajide Olatunbosun, Hon. Olaide Akinremi, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Mr. Zaccheus Adedeji, Prof. Adeniyi Olowofela, Hon. Olatunbosun Oladele, Alh. Isiaka Alimi, Hon. Jacob Bamigboye, Hon. Isiaka Kazeem, Hon. Wumi Oladeji, Hon.

The rank and file of the break away All Progressives Congress, APC, Oyo State chapter named the Unity Forum has reiterated its confidence in the leadership of Senator Monsurat Sunmonu.

The development was part of the major highlights of the exclusive stakeholders meeting which was held on Friday in appraising the commitment and activities of members of the group across the state.

Welcoming the ward and state executive leaders to the discourse, the Secretary, Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun commended the spirited efforts of the members in the stability and growth of the group across the 33 local government area of the state.

He lent credence to how ‘’it is imperative for the forum holding such an important meeting as demanded by the circumstances surrounding the scheming in the polity in order to update ourselves with genuine information of the political situation.’’

Also speaking at the event, Sen. Sunmonu thanked the leadership of the group across the ward and local government levels for their unwaivering love and support since her adoption as the principal.

She therefore assured the teeming members of the assembly of undisputed equity, fairness and transparency.

The senator representing Oyo Central senatorial district allayed fears expressed by the leaders as regards the prominence and future of the members of the group in the African Democratic Congress, (ADC).

She thus enjoined the ward and local government helmsmen of the Unity Forum to work hand in hand with the other extractions in the ADC to energizing the party at the grassroots ahead of the future elections.

She also lauded magnanimity and openness of Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin, the gubernatorial candidate and leader of the party in accommodating every member of the ADC without discrimination.
