The stakeholders of All Progressives Congress, (APC) in Oyo state have come up with a unanimous decision to work together and ensure peace, fairness and adherence to the laid down guidelines in the conduct of the forthcoming Congresses of the party across the state.

This resolve formed the conclusion reached at the stakeholders meeting of the party held today at Lafia Hotel, Ibadan in a preparation for the nationwide Congresses of the APC starting on July 24, 2021 with the Ward Congress.

Contained in a statement by Olawale Sadare, the Personal Assistant (Media) to the State Caretaker Committee Chairman, Chief Akin Oke, Oyo APC stakeholders would not leave any stone unturned to ensure total adherence to the guidelines released from the national secretariat of the party in the conduct of the Congresses “as only this would be solidify the confidence of all party faithful and also pave the way for post-congress unity and harmony as desired.

The state chairman set the tone for the harmonization of positions from all the stakeholders who attended the meeting as he said in his opening remarks that the leadership of the party would not give room for any undemocratic conduct from any quarters before, during and after the Congresses. He also assured party members to remain focused and accommodate one another without any recourse to what had happened in the past.

“We are fascinated by the turn out of critical stakeholders and the calibre of party stalwarts in this all-important meeting which was organized to enable us forge a common front ahead of the forthcoming Congresses of our great Party. I am therefore using this opportunity to assure all party faithful of transparency and fairness in the conduct of the Congresses which we intend to use as a threshold for us to reclaim power in 2023. Now is the time for everyone to go to their Wards and sort things out democratically and harmoniously.” Oke stated.

Also commenting, a former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, sued for peace and understanding among gladiators and their supporters as he observed that unity, trust and hardwork were required from all to strengthen Oyo APC.

“The good people of the state are expecting much from us in APC as they can’t wait to have us in power again following the many disappointments they have got in the hands of the present PDP administration.

“Therefore, all hands must be on deck to justify the confidence reposed in us. All we are asking all leaders, chieftains and members to do is to cooperate among themselves and fashion out acceptable modalities with which we could achieve the desired success at the end of the day. As you have had from Chief Oke, let’s us all go to our individual Wards and participate in the exercise as mature minds and democrats which we are”, he added.

Other speakers at the meeting include former Minister of Communications, Barrister Adebayo Shittu, Chief Kazeem Raji and Hon. Isiaka Kazeem spoke in support of the motion moved by the party chairman as they agreed on allowing stakeholders in each of the 351 Wards across the state to sort out things in relation to the planned July 24 Congresses at the Ward level. It then became a consensus opinion which attendees accepted and ratified for the planned exercise.

Stakeholders at the meeting include; the Honourable Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Chief Sunday Dare, Chief Iyiola Oladokun, Chief Moses Alake-Adeyemo, Sen AbdulFatai Buhari, Sen. Ayoade Adeseun, Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin, Sen. Adesoji Akanbi, Chief Sarafadeen Abiodun Alli, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja, Prof. Soji Adejumo, Alh. Olalekan Alli, Hon. Segun Odebunmi, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi, Prof. Adeolu Akande, Alh. Fatai Ibikunle, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN) and Engr. Joseph Tegbe.

Leaders and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday, made a collective vow to work assiduously with other stakeholders to dislodge the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government from power.

At a meeting of the Oyo Central Senatorial district of the APC held at Oyo and which was attended by notable political gladiators within the Progressive fold across the state, all the speakers were unanimous in their call for unity and harmony among leaders and members of the party particularly as the nationwide membership registration and revalidation exercise drew nearer.

In his address at the meeting; former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, expressed optimism about the APC claiming overwhelming victory in all elective posts across Oyo state and Nigeria in 2023, “provided all patriots and party faithful are ready to work together and do the needful to win the confidence of the electorate in all the nooks and crannies.

“In Oyo state, it is only the APC that can stop the APC from winning all the future elections just like it played out in 2019. Now that we have put the past behind us, we must all rise up to take up the challenge and reclaim our dear state from charlatans who are in the saddle at the moment. It is obvious that the real politicians are in the APC while the few ones in PDP have been blocked from participating in governmental affairs.

“To this end, we must be able to put our house in order and also attract those gladiators in the PDP who have been humiliated by the man in power. It is not yet time for intra party struggle for party tickets as what is important now is how to build a strong and virile Oyo APC.” Alao-Akala submitted.

Speaking at the meeting, the lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Teslim Folarin commended party leaders and members for their steadfastness and loyalty in the previous months “even when it seemed the party would not survive the crisis confronting it immediately the 2019 gubernatorial poll was lost. It is the dawn of a new era and we shall all work together to improve the fortune of our dear party. Right from this moment, I am assuring you that Oyo APC will continue to wax stronger as many people are coming to join us.”

Also commenting, Sen. AbdulFatai Buhari representing Oyo North Senatorial District called for patience and unity among members of the party across the state.

“We the elected representatives are fully aware of the challenges being faced by most of you in terms of empowerment and we shall continue to work hard to bring succour as desire while we would not shy away from discharging our duty as lawmakers and party ambassadors”.

In their separate remarks; the state Caretaker Chairman of the APC, Chief Akin Oke, and his deputy, Chief ‘Lekan Adeyemo, charged party faithful to do all within their power to mobilize aggressively for existing and prospective members to participate in the forthcoming membership registration and revalidation exercise which, according to them, would be a pointer to the fact that the APC remained the party in the state in the 2023 general election.

Speakers at the event also include; Hon. (Prince) Akeem Adeyemi, Hon. Asimiyu Alarape and Prince Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye.

Other dignitaries who attended the occasion are; Hon. Tolulope Akande-Shadipe, Hon. Akin Alabi, Hon. Seyi Adisa, Hon. Babatunde Isiaka, Hon. Simeon Oyeleke, Engr. Idris Adeoye, Hon. Bimbo Adekanmbi, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, Hon. Bimbo Kolade, Barr. Lowo Obisesan, Barr. Moruff Oyedemi, Engr. Faozey Nurudeen among others.

The National Assembly election petition tribunal sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital on Tuesday, 10th September, 2019 dismissed the petition by former House leader, Hon Mulikat Adeola of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, challenging the re-election of Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, PhD at the last election in Oyo North Senatorial district.

Senator Buhari is the first Federal lawmaker to break the jinx of second term in the Senatorial district

Hon Mulikat who is also from Ogbomoso, the same community with Senator Fatai Buhari did not err by challenging the people’s mandate and overwhelming support for Senator Fatai Buhari during the last election but she ought to have carried out a proper evaluation of her chances before election and the chances of tribunal granting her request before initiating a war she knew she cannot win.

Her quest to overturn the electoral victory of the people’s Senator base on her alleged “Corrupt Practices” during the election cannot be substantiated probably because she was misinformed by her party men who monitored the election proceedings in some of the affected councils she mentioned in her petition or she overrated her level of acceptability by the people hence leading to dissatisfaction of the outcome of the election.

She is someone many people loved and her boldness to even challenge Buhari in the last election pointed out that she is not a pessimist like many of our women who have limited their roles to the kitchen and the other room. Her involvement and achievements in politics are not only encouraging but acts worthy of emulation by women who are also aspiring to contribute to national development.

With that I still believe, challenging Senator Buhari in a contest is a mission that cannot be accomplished till eternity not because of the gender difference but rather their politicial prowress are miles away from each other

Obviously we are moving into an era when election will be about personality and not party, though party influence plays a significant role in the last election but personality comes first and the kind of images and reputation Senator Buhari has built in Oyo north and other parts of the state which cannot be easily trashed. He is accessible, simple and honest.

In the history of Oyo North senatorial district, Dr Buhari is the first senator that is available in term of physical appearance, qualitative representation at the upper chamber of the National assembly, facilitation of federal government projects to his district. His clamour for the establishment of a University in Oke Ogun, reconstruction of roads and repair of the existing ones and other developmental projects in the entire Oyo north senatorial district are what made people appreciated and rewarded him with their votes during the last election.

If what emboldens ‘Alhaja’ to even dare Buhari in a contest is the “perceived solid PDP structure in Ogbomoso and Oke Ogun and financial muscle to tackle him naira for naira, she missed the point though, there is no harm in trying but Senator Buhari’s political movement is far beyond politics, it is more of humanitarian services rendered to the deserving people with a view of fast tracking the development through qualitative representation at the National level which Hon Mulikat and her aides can also attest to.

Senator Buhari’s unprecedented achievements in his first term registered his name in the minds of his constituents and that was why it was easy for him to penetrate the nooks and crannies of the senatorial district during the campaign, moving from one community to other. His campaign strategy cannot be matched by any politician in Oyo state, he didn’t wake up just few days to election and start relating with people, he has started the journey into another electoral victory few days after he assumed duties with a sustainable economic empowerment program which changed the life of many of his constituents.

In politics, enemies become friends and friends become enemies, but those who claimed to have left him cannot deny the fact that Senator Buhari is a fine politician who always reward loyalty and appreciate support, to him not everybody will have the opportunity of meeting him personally but every member of his constituents must directly or indirectly benefit from whatever he facilitated and that is why he worked hard to facilitate ICT and CBT centers and blocks of clasrooms to schools and some communities in all the local government areas in Oyo North. With the ICT centres, the next generation will not just have access to computers but also connect them to the global world without necessary moving to the city or nearby towns.

The silent achiever is not a noise maker but those who are close to him knows how he influence allocation of funds to Ogbomoso-Oyo road, reconstruction of Iseyin-okeho road, and many others even the Iseyin -Oyo road .

With facilitation of over 30 boreholes across the district, the people of Elekokan, Gaa Olosun mining communities in the remote part of Oke Ogun and other beneficiaries will not forget in a hurry how Solar powered boreholes facilitated by Senator Buhari relieved them of acute water scarcity and the only way to reward the man who positively touched their lives is to vote him again and pray for his success .

In conclusion, Senator Buhari’s relection is an act of God, reward by people for his commitment to the development of the district, therefore his re-election is a mandate that cannot be trashed

Ise rere ntesiwaju.

Contained in a congratulatory message to Christians at Easter, Buhari also preaches forgiveness, love and passion to help others.

According to the lawmaker, “Jesus Christ during his time was an epitome of humility, and he dedicated his entire life to the assignment he was given, the same way we Nigerians should show total commitment in making our country great”.

“The celebration of death and resurrection of Jesus Christ redeemed hope that dry bones in Nigerian situation shall rise again, if we keep faith with the leadership of the nation and act well our own path just as Jesus did in the past and till date”.

The lawmaker who is also representing Oyo North Senatorial District, however urged Christians to pray for the repose of the victims of herdsmen attacks.
