Oyo State Development Advocacy Group, (OSDAG) has commended the cordiality and cooperation in the relationship between the Governor Seyi Makinde state executive and legislature, under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin in the last one year, saying that “ the Assembly has prioritized the interest of the people”.

Contained in a statemnent signed by its spokesperson, Mr. Micheal Ogunshina, OSDAG noted that for any government to make significant impacts, both the executive and legislative arms of government especially must agree more than they disagree.

“The 9th assembly under the able leadership of Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin has prioritize the interest of the people and development of the State above their individual or political parties’ interest through giving needed support to the executive arm.

“It is a popular but erroneous believe that legislative and executive should be antagonists. Lot of development are often achieved when both arms cooperate and work hand-in-hand for the collective good of the people.

“This is exactly what the 9th assembly lawmakers are doing since inception of their tenure, and the people are seeing the result in the commitment of the government to improved welfare for workers, economy and agribusiness advancement, free education policies, security of lives and infrastructural development”, Ogunshina submitted.

The group, however urged the legislative to avoid distraction, remain united, peaceful and sacrifice their political differences for the sake of a better life they promised their constituents.

The youths from Ibarapa zone of Oyo State have applauded the outstanding leadership skill displayed by Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin as the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly for a year.

The socio-political group under the aegis of Ibarapa Youths Vanguard in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Ogunjimi Sunday noted that the 9th assembly has recorded enviable legislative successes under the leadership of the 33year old Ogundoyin.

Ogundoyin is the State lawmaker representing Ibarapa East Local Government and son of the late philanthropist, Chief Adeseun Ogundoyin.

He was unanimously voted in by other 31 State lawmakers on the 10th of June, 2019, which made him the youngest Speaker in the history of the State and of course Nigeria.

According to the statement, passing a vote of confidence on the Speaker for leading a crisis free assembly in a politically vibrant State like Oyo is absolutely in order.

“We are proud of the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly under the leadership of our own brother Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin. The assembly within a year passed to Establish Investment Promotion Agency, Anti-open grazing Law, anti-corruption agency, Establish Agribusiness Development Agency, the Amotekun law, Adeseun Ogundoyin Polytechnic Amendment bill and so on.

“These are laws focusing on protecting the people of Oyo State and also improving their lives by providing enabling environment for investment to drive investors and eventually transforming the economy fortune of the State.

“This time last year, we supported Ogundoyin’s Speakership bid and we are happy he did not disappoint us in Ibarapa and he is also make Nigerian youths proud”, he said.

The group therefore commend the impressive work relationship between the Executive and the legislative, adding that it makes governance easier and contribute to the peaceful political atmosphere in the State.

“While appreciating the support the lawmakers are giving both the Speaker and our Governor, Engineer Oluseyi Makinde, we call for more cooperation especially on the issue of security in the State.

“We need Amotekun Security Network to take off soon, so the people of Ibarapaland feel safe in their farms and on the roads,” the statement concluded.

In spite of the intervention of former Governor Rashidi Ladoja to douse the impeachment tension in the Oyo State House of Assembly, it is difficult to conclude that plans to remove the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin have been finally laid to rest.

After close to a year that the Speaker, Ogundoyin has been in the saddle of affairs in the state House of Assembly, there had been clandestine moves by some aggrieved members to boot the number three citizen of the state out of the power game.

Very recently, it became clear that there was something more serious to the aggrieved lawmakers than mere dousing tension. The dissatisfied camp are seriously strategizing on how to execute the impeachment process.

It was reliably gathered that the crux of the matter was their loyalty to Governor Seyi Makinde which they claimed was not yielding any ‘fruitful benefits’ as expected.

Sources told Mega Icon Magazine that the lawmakers are silently grumbling as they find it extremely difficult to service the loans they took from financial institutions. The sources revealed that the least loan obtained from these banks was twenty million naira (N20,000,000).

Unfortunately, before they agreed to a 30 per cent cut in their monthly allocation to assist the state government in its bid to pay salaries of workers as COVID-19 affects global economy, their monthly salaries and allowances was over two million naira.

And; the deduction in support of COVID-19 include salaries and other monthly allowances.

“Let me shock you my brother, after deduction for the loans obtained, most of these lawmakers are left with only fifty thousand naira (N50,000) monthly and they have constituents to attend to in their various constituencies. No official car, constituency allowance to even facilitate any meaningful project.

“Now that they have agreed to a 30% cut in their monthly allocation, its really going to be hard. Thus, they feel that the Speaker, Ogundoyin who is aware of their plight has not been protecting their interests before Governor Makinde. They lamented of been sidelined by the Speaker and funny enough, the PDP controls this present House of Assembly conveniently.

“To them, Ogundoyin isn’t fit to lead the Assembly”, one of the sources disclosed.

Speaking further, he continued, “the Speaker is also perceived as an enemy by members whom were believed to be working with some people at the corridors of power. These people are loyal to the governor and are behind the alleged impeachment of the Deputy Governor, Engr. Raufu Olaniyan.

“They believed Ogundoyin is also doing the deputy governor’s bid and showing him the exit door would be the best option “.

Interestingly, the new political twist in the Oyo State House of Assembly was to seek a revenge for the lawmaker representing Ibadan North East State Constituency I, Hon. Olagoke Akinajo, who was unceremoniously removed by the Speaker as the Chairman, House Committee on Public Works and Transport.

His colleagues, particularly, lawmakers from Ibadan land are ready to confront the Speaker on his decision which they considered as embarrassing. Olagoke is an Ibadan Mogaji.

However, other lawmakers that are also loyal to the Speaker, Hon. Ogundoyin are closely monitoring the political trend. Obviously, it is not yet Uhuru as pro and anti Ogundoyin still have an unsettled business to resolve.

But, only time will tell.

It is no more news that political tension is brewing at the Oyo State House of Assembly as some members are clandestinely moving for the Impeachment of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.

However, the tension that heightened in Ibadan, the state capital in preparatory to Ogundoyin’s impeachment has been partially laid to rest, Mega Icon Magazine exclusively gathered.

An inside source who craved anonymity alleged that the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Abiodun Mohammed Fadeyi who is enjoying support from the state governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde is also eyeing the seat. Fadeyi represents Ona-Ara State Constituency.

Reacting to the allegation as well as the development that occurred at the Tuesday’s plenary, Hon. Fadeyi, who denied the impeachment plot submitted: “That I am eyeing the Speakership seat? I don’t have anything to say my brother. First and foremost, there is nothing to talk about, the Speaker took a decision and the decision is done, so what is my own about I am eyeing the speakership seat, where is that story coming from ?

“My brother, I am a journalist of over twenty five years and I know what I am talking about. On what you have been asking me I don’t have any comment on it and there is no issue in the House ;no problem in the House. The House is one and we are working for the development and the growth of our state”, the Deputy speaker concluded.

The impeccable source further confirmed to this newspaper that the Speaker, Hon Ogundoyin from Ibarapa East State Constituency would have been impeached by now if not for the intervention of former Governor Rasidi Ladoja. He disclosed that Ladoja who is presently out of the country has reached out to Governor Makinde advising him to ensure that the members shunned the unsavoury plot to impeach Ogundoyin at this early hours of his administration.

According to him, “Our leader, Baba Ladoja has intervened. He advised Governor Makinde not to allow such. Baba also noted that it will be too early to precipitate unnecessary crisis because the governor may not be able to manage the crisis till the end of his administration. Such a move will create tension and instability.

“He urged Governor Makinde to consider the adverse effects which may bring about distractions. You know the Speaker started his political career from Baba. Ladoja is spearheading the move to save Ogundoyin from being disgraced out of office”, he hinted.

The source added that Governor Makinde has also doused the impeachment tension as he prevailed on aggrieved members of the State House of Assembly, noting that he was convinced that the time was neither right or healthy for the state to experience such uneasy calm.

The political game has also cost Hon. Olagoke Akinajo, who is representing Ibadan North East State Constituency I, the Chairmanship of House Committee on Public Works and Transport.

The embattled lawmaker, Olagoke at the Tuesday’s plenary, was unceremoniously removed by the Speaker. Interestingly, Ogundoyin and Akinajo are from the same political party, the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP).

It was also learnt that the PDP controlled State House of Assembly’s loyalty to Governor Makinde is not yielding ‘fruitful benefits’ for the lawmakers as some members lamented of been sidelined.

The lawmakers are silently grumbling over lack of official cars, constituency allowance among others in the last twelve months, except their monthly salaries and allowances which is over two million naira monthly.

Meanwhile, members have agreed to a 30 per cent cut in their monthly allocation to assist the state government in its bid to pay salaries of workers as COVID-19 affects global economy.

The deduction include the lawmakers’ salaries and other monthly allowances.

These lawmakers, according to our source are unable to facilitate any meaningful projects to their various constituencies and they are being attacked by their constituents for non -performance.

Reactions have continued to trail the action of the Oyo State House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin, as lawmakers expressed dismay against his decision to overrule their submissions and further approve the N7.6b CBN loan requested by Governor Seyi Makinde to upgrade farm settlements in Akufo and Eruwa areas of the state to farm estates.

The lawmakers are of the opinion that there is a need for Governor Makinde to spread the scope and usage of the agricultural loan to other zones in the state and not limit it to Akufo and Eruwa farm settlements alone.

The governor, had in a letter sent to the State House of Assembly urged the lawmakers to allow him access Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) loan to develop Akufo and Eruwa farm settlements into farm estates.

The letter, which was presented on the floor of the assembly during Thursday’s plenary informed that the proposed farm estates are to serve as pilot projects which will be used to develop other farm settlements across the state.

Other farm settlements in the state, which were not covered in the CBN loan facility as requested by Governor Makinde included; farm settlements in Ipapo in Oke-Ogun geo-politcal zone, Fashola farm settlement in Ilora Afijio local government Area, Iresaadu, Ijaiye, and Lalupon in Lagelu Local government area.

This approval makes it the second loan so far approved for Governor Seyi Makinde by the lawmakers within five months having earlier endorsed a N10 billion infrastructure loan request in July.

It was reliably gathered that the two farm settlements are housed in Ido/Ibarapa East Federal constituency where the Speaker, Ogundoyin hailed from.

However, not satisfied with the choice of the two farm settlements to enjoy the loan facility out of the many others in the state, the lawmakers insisted that the loan should be spread across other farm settlements.

In their separate reactions, Hon. Isiaka Tunde representing Oyo East/ Oyo West State Constituency and his counterpart from Iseyin/Itesiwaju, Hon. Dele Adeola expressed their dissatisfaction on concentration on the loan, challenging the rationale for selecting two farm settlements within only one Federal constituency (Ibarapa East/Iddo). They maintained that the loan be spread to other parts of the state.

Also corroborating the lawmakers’ position, the Deputy Speaker, Mr Abiodun Fadeyi and the Minority Leader, Mr Asimiyu Alarape further called for the extension of the loan facility to other farm settlements in the state .

The duo, however urged the executive arm of government to ensure judicious use of the agricultural loan to enable it achieve the purpose for which it is sought, while other lawmakers, also enjoined Governor Makinde to spread the loan facility to take care of other areas.

Despite heated debate by members on the issue, the Speaker, Hon. Ogundoyin finally ruled that the loan would be approved as presented by Governor Makinde.

“Other states have been accessing this agriculture loan facility, especially in the North. But we thank God the state government is ready to work with the federal government and provide counterpart funding to show seriousness in accessing this loan.

“We know that the CBN and federal government are interested in agricultural development and this is a blessing to Oyo state. Moreover, our own goal is to develop the state through agriculture. If we decide to spread the money as requested by some lawmakers, we might end up not achieving anything and have abandoned projects.

“These two projects can be the engine room for the other projects. We are taking the projects one at a time. If we can achieve two projects out of seven then for the remaining five, we do another two next year and thereafter, then we will be able to make progress”, Ogundoyin responded.
