They were kidnapped on their way to attend the church’s Ministers’ Conference in Lagos.

General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye announced the abduction on Friday at the Redeemed Camp along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Adeboye said the abduction took place on Thursday along the Ijebu-Ode axis.

He charged the congregation to pray for the release of the abductees.

Adeboye noted that it was the first time such incident of that magnitude was happening.

“As a father, how do you think I should feel to hear that five of my children have been kidnapped while on their way to attend the Ministers Conference?” he asked.

“We completely reject the wicked politics that the APC and the Buhari Presidency are importing into our polity. We hereby urge all Nigerians, particularly the youths, to rise in condemnation of these vicious acts.

“Only last month, a special security squad of army, police and paramilitary agencies was unleashed to physically harass our Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, at the Abuja airport, upon his return from Dubai.

“Nigerians are already aware of how opposition leaders and others perceived to be averse to the President Buhari’s re-election bid, on account of his woeful performance in office, are being blackmailed and
framed up with spurious charges.

“President Buhari should note that, as an opposition Presidential candidate from 2003 to 2015, none of his children or family members were in anyway attacked or victimized by the government in power. He should

A statement jointly signed by the council’s chairman, Adewunmi Faniran, and the secretary, Mr Bola Ogunlayi, said it was highly disturbed that the building was demolished when the matter was before a court of competent jurisdiction.

The building belonging to the popular musician was demolished in the early hours of Sunday by the state government for allegedly contravening its town planning laws.

Reacting, the council expressed concern over the fate of journalists and other media workers in the establishment as well as the loss suffered by the owner of the broadcast outfit.

The statement reads in part, “As the fourth estate of the realm and believer in the rule of law, the Oyo State NUJ expects that the court would have been left to take a definite decision on the issue of demolition before it was carried out.

“The state government should ensure that it comes to the aid of Fresh FM which has been a pride of Ibadan in particular and Oyo State.’’

The council urged the government to relocate the station to another site and ensure the smooth take-off of its operations.

DAILY POST had reported that no fewer than 15 senators of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Tuesday, defected to the PDP. The defectors cited crisis and factions within the party as the reasons for their defection, saying they cannot continue to pursue their political careers under the ruling party.

Similarly, a total of 37 members of the House of Representatives announced their official defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, reacting, Buhari in a statement by his special adviser on media and publicity, Mr. Garba Shehu, insisted he had no issues with the lawmakers that left the party.

He expressed total commitment to the values of democracy, freedom of choice as well as total willingness to work with all members of the National Assembly, irrespective of their political party, for the benefit of the nation.

The President noted that none of the defecting federal lawmakers had any specific grievances against him or the government he leads, neither did he harbour anything against any of them.

The Statement added that as “the saying goes, all politics is local. We understand that some of the distinguished and honourable lawmakers have issues with their home states, especially on zoning which bars some of them from seeking another term in their constituencies.”

Buhari noted that the APC had done its utmost to stop the defections.

The President commended the leadership of the party for relentlessly working for its unity and ensuring success in the upcoming elections.

He assured members of the APC of his total support and urged party faithful not to despair but to see the defections as a seasonal occurrence that happens on election eve.

The President expressed confidence that no harm or injury would be done to the party and its aspirations by the movements.

Buhari wished all the decamped members the best in their future undertakings.

Obasanjo on Friday claimed that Buhari’s government was planning to frame him and consequently kill him.

Reacting, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed said the Buhari Administration will not be distracted by “frivolous allegations from any quarter, especially those cleverly choreographed to divert attention from a widely-acclaimed presidential proclamation and to shore up support for a waning and egotistical cause”.

Mohammed in a statement released in Lagos said the administration was “too busy trying to clear the mess of 16 years and build on its unprecedented achievements over the past three years to waste its energy and time on framing up anyone or dwelling on issues that are not grounded in fact”.

The statement read in part “those who have skeletons in their wardrobes should be afraid, even of their own shadows, innocent persons need not worry about any investigation, whether real or imagined.

”This administration will never engage in a frame-up of innocent citizens. That is neither in the character of President Muhammadu Buhari nor in that of his administration. Only the guilty should be worried. To paraphrase an African proverb, a man who has no wife cannot lose an inlaw to the cold hands of death.

”The administration is also strongly committed to the tenets of democracy, including freedom of speech and the right to dissent. But we understand that those who, in their time, were untethered to those principles would find it hard to believe.

Buhari had, on Wednesday, announced the replacement of May 29 with June 12 as new date for National Democracy Day, in recognition of June 12, 1993, presidential election believed to have been won by the joint-ticket of Abiola and Kingibe.

He also conferred a posthumous GCFR title on MKO Abiola and GCON titles on his running mate, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe as well as the late legal icon and human rights activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi posthumously for his role in the fight for the actualisation of democracy.

However, Kinigbe, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, described Buhari’s declaration of June 12 day as Democracy Day as a great honour.
