The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Presidential Candidate and former Vice President of Nigeria, Alh. Atiku Abubakar has debunked as ‘total fabrication’ an allegation suggesting that he spent $30,000 to hire a US lobby group to persuade the US Congress to stop the inauguration of President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Atiku in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Paul Ibe alleged that the allegation was instigated by the Buhari campaign.

Reacting to what he described as ‘shameless lies’ Atiku’s Media Adviser, Mr. Paul Ibe, stressed that the latest dirty propaganda against the former Vice President didn’t come as a surprise because lying has so far become their only bragging rights of competence.

In a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, he explained that ‘lying has become a culture to the APC administration and therefore, we are not surprised by their latest diversionary allegations’.

“Since Atiku resisted pressure not to go to court, the APC has been behaving like a cat on hot bricks because the outcome of the 2019 elections has exposed and shattered the facade of their dubious integrity.

“Atiku’s court case has become their biggest burden because it exposes their integrity as a sham, and instead of defending their stolen mandate in court, they are now using fake news to divert public attention from the historic electoral heist they have committed against Nigerians”, the statement added.

Atiku, however emphasized that no amount of diversionary propaganda and fake news campaign by APC will stop him from continuing the court action he started to reclaim the alleged stolen mandate.

FORMER president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Dr Olisa Agbakoba, on Wednesday appealed to the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, to accept the outcome of the presidential election.

Agbakoba made the plea in a statement hours after Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, declared President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the poll.

The ex-NBA President, who is also a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), said while he noted the ‘massive irregularities’ in the election, going to Election Petition Tribunal was not the right decision.

He explained that the voting pattern for the poll showed that ethnicity played a significant role in the exercise.

Agbakoba said he understood the grievance of the opposition party but a lot needed to be done in reforming the nation’s politics and the electoral process.

He, however, challenged Atiku not to lose sight of the legacy in his front and take up the mantle of a statesman.

Agbakoba also stressed the need to address the voting pattern in the country, adding that the same thing might repeat itself in the 2023 general elections.

AHEAD of the French presidential election, Facebook has cracked down on 30,000 fake accounts in France for spreading fake news stories, spam, misinformation or other deceptive content.

According to Facebook security manager, Shabnam Shaik in a blog post, “Our priority, of course, is to remove the accounts with the largest footprint, with a high amount of activity and a broad reach”.

Shaik further noted that the purge will not remove all accounts that are spreading fake news. “We know we have to keep getting better”.

“These accounts were targeted because they are fake. Full stop.

The decision it’s part of an effort to fight misinformation following the spread of fake news in the lead-up to the U.S. presidential race.

The first round of voting in France is set to take place April 23, while the spread of fake news has raised concerns in France ahead of the the country’s national elections.
