The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Senator representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, has reaffirmed his commitment to aiding the Federal Polytechnic Ayede in realising its full potential.

Senator Akintunde made this pledge during a courtesy visit to the institution’s temporary site in Iresa-Pupa, Ogbomoso, on Wednesday.

Speaking during the visit, the lawmaker highlighted his passion for contributing to humanity, especially through the advancement of education and skills development.

“I am part of the polytechnic system. I started at The Polytechnic, Ibadan before going to Lagos State University, Ojoo, Lagos. I’m a lover of knowledge and I am always striving to contribute my quota in the area of education and skills development, among others, and in the legislative assignments as my primary responsibility,” he stated.

The APC chieftain further emphasised his dedication to supporting the Polytechnic and its community, stating that leaders should be driven by a commitment to serving humanity.

He cited the legacy of Hon. Olu Afolabi, a Second Republic House of Representatives member, who was instrumental in establishing the Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo.

“Afolabi’s legacy remains evergreen today,” Akintunde remarked, emphasising the importance of creating lasting impacts through public service.

As part of his developmental projects for the Oyo Central Senatorial District, Akintunde disclosed that he had procured 120 solar-powered boreholes to be installed across the 118 wards of the 11 local governments in his senatorial district, along with 10,000 solar street lights.

He assured the Federal Polytechnic Ayede that some of these solar street lights would be installed within the institution to enhance security and visibility on campus.

Earlier, the Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ayede, Dr. Taofeek Abdul-Hameed, who was represented by the acting Rector and Deputy Rector (Academics), Mr. Azeez Ojo, expressed gratitude to the senator.

The Rector noted that Senator Akintunde had demonstrated a deep commitment to philanthropic causes even before assuming office as a senator.

“You see, it’s a great privilege receiving Distinguished Senator Yunus Akintunde and his entourage on our campus today. Out of your magnanimity, Sir, you have decided to receive us,” Ojo said, acknowledging the senator’s gesture.

“Our Rector is away to Abuja for the progress and development of our Polytechnic. So, on behalf of the Chairman of our Governing Council, Barrister Ademubowale Mercy Adelabu; Rector; other Principal Officers; Deans; Directors; staff, and students, I welcome you and your entourage to Federal Polytechnic Ayede.

“While on Brave FM, you have, before even telling us, announced the gesture of solar lights donated to us. This we appreciate with the whole of our hearts,” he said.

The lawmaker representing Oyo Central Senatorial District, Dr. Yunus Akintunde, has expressed deep sorrow upon hearing the news of the passing of Princess Adenike Adebowale-Atoyebi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Oyo North Senatorial Woman Leader.

Senator Akintunde mourned her sudden demise, highlighting the significant loss it represents for the progressive movement, particularly in the Oke-Ogun geo-political zone of the state.

In a heartfelt condolence statement, the lawmaker praised the late Princess Adenike Adebowale-Atoyebi as a remarkable political leader who consistently promoted unity among APC members in the Saki East Local Government Area, contributing significantly to grassroots development.

A former senatorial candidate in the 2019 general elections, Engr. Abiola Olaniyan has urged Muslim faithful across the country to use the Eid-el Kabir festival to pray for the peace, love and unity of Nigeria.

Olaniyan made the call on Monday in his Sallah message to the people of Oyo state and Nigeria in general. He encouraged Muslims to emulate the life of Prophet Ibrahim by promoting love and unity including tolerance.

“I called on Muslims to emulate the life of Prophet Ibrahim who almost sacrificed his son but was stopped by Allah to use a ram in place of his son, by promoting love and unity including tolerance with the situation the country finds herself in the wake of economic challenges and insecurity,” the statement read in part.

According to him, Nigerians must embrace peace and love before any development can thrive in the country.

The APC Chieftain called on his constituents in Oyo Central Senatorial district, the people of Oyo state and Nigeria in general to use this festive period to pray against all forms of insecurity that is currently bedevilling the country.

Oladotun, noted that their energy has not been totally harnessed for productive use, assuring that the platform will renew the hope of the people.

He, specifically tasked the youths to tap into the opportunity of this generation by  taking advantage of the fourth industrial revolution driven by digital technology.

“To be realistic and fair to ourselves, this generation belongs to the youths . The  present occupant of Oyo Central senatorial district, Oloye Teslim Folarin,  became a senator of the federal republic of Nigeria at the age of 39 years.

“Even, in developed countries, most of the richest people are the youths, including Facebook C.E.O, Mark Zuckerberg, whose fortune made him the sixth richest in the world. He’s  just 37 years old. The ideology, I want to sell is about tapping the opportunity of this generation, that’s my vision, that’s what I want to bring on board because; we own this generation”, he said.

The APC chieftain, who disclosed this while addressing a  press conference in Ibadan , the Oyo state capital, also revealed  that he has learnt some lessons from the previous political process that would be crucial to making decisions about his future  aspirations.

According to him, “initially, I didn’t plan to embark on politics, even in those days, I usually tell people that I will never participate in politics. I came back to Oyo in 2018 for different purpose. There is a non- governmental organization in Italy, its role is to bring in innovative road construction products. I came in and we wrote FERMA, informing the agency about the concept, unfortunately, we were unable to get the approval to execute the project, even up til now; because they wanted something. So, because of this delay in approval process , one of my brothers in Oyo town, who is also a politician, later advised me to contest for the National Assembly seat so that I can be able to facilitate these developments for my people; with less stress. That was when my journey into politics started. We sat together and drafted some plans as to how to  go about it.

“Also, in  Nigeria, we have almost 2 billion minutes international calls  coming in monthly, and from that 2 billion calls, government is not making a cent. So, we introduced international sort out to the federal government which will pass through Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Telecommunications, but they didn’t see the light in it, because they wanted immediate gains,  the proposal did not fly. If, we calculate 2 billion minutes calls, even if the government only introduces N5 as tax, its a huge revenue which is billions of naira monthly into the covers of the government. But, up till now, that policy has not been implemented in Nigeria.

“So, the political process started due to gallant of approvals that we were unable to secure for these  projects. My people would have benefited from these projects , so, in terms of policy making, I want to get involved actively ”, he declared.

Speaking further , the successful ICT guru, also announced his readiness to establish the first Oyo Incubation and Innovation Tech hub in Oyo town. He explained that the hub will assist in research and development, adding that anyone with innovative idea would be mentored, empowered with start up fund among others.

The Oyo – born politician, also revealed that he is planning to launch the first electric vehicles with charging stations in his town.

He said, “We are trying to set up the first Oyo Incubation and Innovation Tech hub which is going to be situated  in Oyo town. The purpose of setting up this hub is that anything that relates to research and development would be coming out from there and anyone with an innovative idea can come down, we will give mentorship , start up fund and some other things that are related. For example, we  planned to launch the first electric vehicles and set up charging stations for at least 10 electric vehicles. I want to create platforms for people, particularly the youths to be self-reliance.

“Because, we have created the platform, a lot of investors will come in that in the whole of Oyo state, in Oyo town that’s where we have electric cars , it’s going to be reflected on google, thus placing the town on the map. That’s  what we are trying to do.

Oladotun, however, assured that Oyo town, as one of the hubs in Nigeria, would be used for the upcoming Internet Governance Forum (IGF) meeting which  is billed for Poland before the end of this year, saying “it is even going to be the first in the Southwest , we don’t even have it in Lagos presently.

“We are using our Oyo Tech Hub to host Internet Governance Forum meeting which is a global thing. A lot of people will participate at a global level. This will surely attract huge development not only to the town, but the state in general”, he added.

The Chairman,  Senate Committee on Land Transport also stressed that Pa Akindele’s impacts among the progressives in the state and Nigeria in general remained not only memorable but capable of emulation by the younger politicians.

Senator Buhari, however prayed onto to God to grant the deceased eternal rest and give the family and friends he left behind the fortitude to bear the loss.

Hon.  Ayoola, who was the first Speaker of the 4th Oyo State House of Assembly died  in the early hours of Thursday after a brief illness in an undisclosed hospital in Ibadan, the state capital, Mega Icon Magazine gathered.

In a statement on Thursday, Senator Buhari   lamented that the Commissioner died at a time when his contribution is required by serving the state. He identified the deceased as a visionary politician who used his timely opportunity, especially between 1999 and 2003 to serve people of the state diligently.

Other eminent personalities including former Senator Monsurat Sunmonu have also expressed their condolences to Governor Makinde over the death of his Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources.

Also commenting, the Commissioner representing the state at the Federal Character Commission,  Professor Adeniyi Olowofela, expressed shock over the death of Ayoola. While extolling the virtues of the late Commissioner, the APC chieftain described him as a committed cabinet member.

Olowofela, however commiserated with the state government for  loosing a rare gem.

According to highly impeccable source who confided in Mega Icon Magazine, the ex- commissioner would be representing Oyo state at the Federal Character Commission (FCC) for the next five years.

It would be recalled that Bimbo Kolade, Temitope Olatoye Sugar were stepped down for former senate leader, Teslim Folarin during the recently conducted APC primaries.

Kolade, who is a kitchen cabinet member and an age long associate of Governor Abiola Ajimobi had also served as the Honourable commissioner in the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development, Ministry of Lands, Housing and Survey and Ministry of Works respectively.

The Fiditi born politician attended the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Ile-Ife for his Bachelor’s, degree in Building, while he also obtained a Master degree in Housing Development from University of Ibadan. He has also attended various management courses at Lagos Business School.

No fewer than five aspirants, including Hon. Olatoye Temitope Sugar jostling for the seat have withdrawn and conceded the ticket to Sen Folarin, a source told our reporter.

“This was as a result of the marathon meeting held at the Agodi Government House with Governor Abiola Ajimobi on Tuesday”, the source added.

At the Award hall, Moniya Ibadan in Akinyele Local Government, the Chairman , APC National Working Committee in the state, Ademola Seriki announced and showed the withdrawal letter of the five aspirants to the delegates yesterday.

According to Seriki, out of the 6 aspirants that obtained the Oyo Central Senatorial district form, 5 people have withdrawn from the race, remaining only Senator Teslim Folarin in the contest.

When the committee was calling the local governments one after the other, the delegates disagreed with the sole candidature of Senator Folarin

They said since the Governor had single handedly picked his preferred candidate there is no need of conducting any primary.

Seriki and his team left the scene immediately, while Senator Folarin and his team arrived the council secretariat where he had a brief discussion with the Committee Chairman of the primary election.

Former Senate leader could not go to the Hall, the venue of the primary due to the information he had earlier received.

A prominent contender to picking the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Oyo Central Senatorial District, Mr. Faozey Nurudeen Oladotun, has picked his expression of intent and Nomination form with a pledge to deliver quality  representation to the people of the district if given their mandate,  come 2019.

The 35-year old ICT expert, who picked his forms at the APC secretariat, Abuja last Tuesday, is one of the 5 people eyeing the seat in the party. Shortly after obtaining his forms, Faozey, while addressing newsmen informed that his ambition was borne out of his desire to turn the fortunes of his people around.

He stressed that the senatorial district should not be left behind in the scheme of development.

Faozey, whose business interests include telecommunications, mining and Information Communication Technologies (ICT) companies which he started after obtaining a degree from the electrical department, University of Ilorin added that he decided to throw his hat into the ring to challenge the status quo ante of the older generation who has held sway the legislative seat since the advent of the present political dispensation.

He cited the case of the banking sector, which reform was aided by the introduction of ICT tools driven by youths. Faozey, also insisted that the time has come for the youths with energy, passion, knowledge and ICT skills to contribute to the processes of policy making through legislative opportunities.

He further disclosed his six focal points of action in the interest of young business starters and entrepreneurs in his senatorial district. Faozey, who is a member of the Presidential Steering Committee of the United Nations-WSIS implementation in Nigeria, lauded Governor Abiola Ajimobi for creating enabling environment for his ilks to want to participate actively in the political space

He listed some of the focal areas as implementation of a workable and pragmatic template of legislative duties, setting a pace for collaborative development, facilitating and setting up an industrial free zone (IFZ) for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), setting g up a world-class business incubator and accelerator, setting up a 0-or-single digit interest rate for start up loan for new businesses and facilitating the establishment of international healthcare centre.

While urging other youths to join him in embracing politics and contribute their quota to the development of the state so as to improve the lives of the people, he, however reassured that if elected he would strive to ensure that the confidence reposed on him is not misplaced, and his words and promises remain his bond.
